Help line

Ok, here's the plan and we need your input to decide if it's viable?

We thought it might be a benefit to the registered users of this forum (guests would be excluded) to have a list of members contact information.

To address privacy and security concerns, we'd only ask that you include your first name and screen name, a contact number (would recommend a cell number over a home number) and the general location where you reside.

Info removed for now for security purposes.

Here's the reason. Lets say you or a loved one is travelling, vette or otherwise and have an emergency. Maybe you call AAA or other roadservice and have to wait an hour or so. There's some places I wouldn't want my wife, daughter & granddaughter waiting alone. The police will occasionally standby with you but that depends on thier availability.

It'd be nice to be able to call a forum member. I know if anyone here were travelling through our area and was in a jam, call me and I'd do everything I could to get to you to help or get you some assistance.

This forum has felt like family from the beginning and I'm sure there are others here that feel the same way.

From out of town and need recommendations on food/lodging/locations to avoid (even shops if you're borken down away from home)? Again, call a friend from the forum.

Might find yourself suddenly out of town and with some spare time on your hands, or like myself, I'm sure there are people here who travel daily. I spend a lot of time in the Bradenton/Sarasota and Pinellas County areas. It'd be cool to be able to contact a forum member and get together for lunch, dinner, drinks or just to bs about cars:thumbsup:

UPdate and print off a copy occasionlly and the family could keep a copy in thier purse, day planner, whatever or possibly up load it to an Ipod or planner?

Again, this would be strictly voluntary and limited to the registered users of the forum only.

So, give us your feedback please:thumbsup:

Thanks,

Gordon

Thanks for the feedback sir:thumbsup:

If this goes over well. I'll place all the informationinto a separate forum, maybe organized by geographic location or ????

Then we'll make a sticky of it and we're off to the races:thumbsup:

Why not?

I like the idea.:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Are guests able to access THIS thread?
If so, I'd refrain from putting contact info HERE.

:thumbsup:Thanks guys:thumbsup:

Ray, add your info bro.

Lets leave this open a few days or maybe a week and see how others view it?

One way or the other, we can still use it, even if there's limited participation (which I don't think will be the case:thumbsup:)

Gordon

Yeah, this would be a great feature, but I think this thread should be considered as a "testing of the waters", and not the actual place to put that info. And yes, guests CAN view this thread and this forum. I would need to set up a special forum for this after figuring out a way to make it in such a format that will be useful to everyone. Maybe divided into geographical areas might be helpful.

So let's consider this as a brain-storming thread to figure out whether you all want this, and if so, how best to implement it.

So, do I put my info here or do I wait to see where we gonna put the post? :shrug01: I think it's a great idea!! :yesnod:

Ok, I'm gonna make a copy of the information we have, then delete the information from this section until it's a go and where?

Thanks and no, not yet. Once we figure our where and how, I'll get with everyone to get it in.

Rich, what I was thinking was to have one (1) thread.

This way, if someone decides to make a paper copy of it, they'll have all the info and not just a certain area.

I'll be happy to organize it by geographic locations and keep it squared away, hows that?

Shadow 09-23-2007 06:59 PM

Ok, I made my copy and I've edited out everyones info. It will reappear in the formal "registered users only" thread once we decide where and how?

Ok, more input on the idea please.

Thanks:thumbsup:

next victim?

Well, if EVERYONE posts their info in one single thread, is that really going to be efficient or useful? Suppose someone from Miami is heading up to Tampa, do they really need to have info for people in Jacksonville or Pensacola? How easy will it be for someone to find a member, say near Arcadia, where they had car problems?

Suppose one tenth of the registered members participate in this, and we wind up having 160 posts in that one thread with no rhyme nor reason how the info is sorted. Finding what you are looking for might be somewhat of a hassle when you are already stressed out on the road with a problem.

Would having someone put the info in a sorted order in a .PDF file be better?

I'm assuming someone would want to have a printed copy to take with them, so something more paper friendly might be a better route to take.

Love the idea!

It does provide some security and peace of mind when another Vettester can be counted on around another members' transiting anothers' area. Members who 'check your 6'!!:hehehe:

Run with it...my information will be available as soon as you crank this up! :dancer01:

Shadow 09-24-2007 11:52 AM

Thanks again:thumbsup:

Because of you guys, we're off to a great start.

Currently we have reps from the North, South, East, West and Central parts of the state:dancer01::thumbsup:

Let's see who all else may be interested?

Thanks again everyone:thumbsup:
