Rotating annual meet and greet

OK, at the meet and greet this past Saturday at the Mandalay Grill in Clearwater an idea was kicked around to have a rotating meet and greet as an annual event. West Coast (this year), East Coast next year, and Center Of The State the year after that, then repeat. It wouldn't always have to be the same location or city for that matter, just rotate it between the 3 areas to give us something else to do, as well as another GOOD reason to travel to other parts of the state. Anyone care to jump in with thoughts, ideas, recommendations, etc.? Nasajack was here this weekend and a few of us thought it would be really interesting to head over there for a tour of the space center if it could be arranged. So here's your chance to get in on the ground floor for what could become an annual event. Get your ideas into a post and see where it goes from there. Anyone have any place in per-ticular that they would like to see? Maybe someone from that area could set something up. Got a place locally that you really like.......post it up and see what happens. Any and all ideas welcome, cause it's your forum as well, and I would like to see other parts of the state in conjunction with having a good time with fellow forum members. I think that Shadow and Nasajack, at the minimum, would also like to see something like this happen. Let's hear your thoughts and ideas guys and gals....................

I'll have to be there to shoot the video right? There's a restaurant on the south side of Titusville almost directly across from the launch pads. I don't remember the name but it used to be a good place to eat plus the view was very good.

I like the idea with location rotation. I would only add that perhaps a backroad cruise or activity of some sort be added. If we go across the state, we would most likely spend the night or make a weekend out of it.
I think a picnic under the booster rockets would be awesome.. Nasa here we come.

Rich Z 01-16-2011 11:49 PM

Well, I'm all for it, but it sounds to me like the three choices are STILL in the center of the state, just laterally arranged east and west. Florida is a pretty big state, so why not expand the range north and south as well?

Destin has some of the prettiest beaches in the world. Amelia Island/Fernandina Beach is an excellent spot to visit. And personally I wouldn't mind visiting the Keys again.

There are a LOT of places in Florida well worth visiting, so why don't we try to see as many of them as we can in the process?

Some good stuff coming out of this thread, thanks Andy:thumbsup:
Going to sticky it and let 'er ride!

Bob-You are now officially our video-historian:thumbsup::D

Mark, great idea to take the backroads. After all, isn't that where the vette really shines is on the twisties?:dancer01:
We did that going to St. Augustine and had a blast.
Enough main road to expedite the trip, and enough side/back/secondary roads to make it beautiful:thumbsup:

Rich has a point.
The same thing was in the back of my mind the other day while we were discussing this at the restaurant.

When we do a "West Coast" function, that would include the entire West coast, from Pensacola to Key West!

Center state would again be from say, the State line South to Arcadia, and the east coast from St. Augustine/Ft. Walton to Miami:thumbsup:

With the advent of telephones and the internet (that's Al Gore:rofl1:), if we didn't have a local point person, someone from the local area, then one of the rest of us could take care of it.

Andy, this is a great idea!
It's time to get out and see the rest of our state!

That would be a long and beautiful drive on less traveled roads and a great way to make a weekend of the trip. Lulu's restaurant is somewhere over to the west and she's Jimmy Buffet's sister. Maybe a neat side trip (let me tell ya Shadow and I love Buffet).

Great night for a cruise in. Anyone got a portable dyno?

I'm over in Palm Bay Phil, about 3 hours away so I won't make it to any of these meets. Maybe you can find out at the next one. I was just curious. I had a '47 but that was 50 yrs ago.

That is a '41 Chevy. The '46 has a wider grille that goes almost all the way across the front fender. There is a guy at the Wesley Chapel DQ cruise in that has a pearl white metalic '41 chevy that is very nice.

Phil, Sorry I did not make it again this month. It is not that I forgot again. I was planning on attending then that afternoon got sent to Citrus County to help set up for traffic counts and then had to leave a 4am the next day to go do the counts at peak hr. I promise I am going to get there one of these days

Thanks. This is off topic but there's a guy over here with a '40 Plymouth that is one of the nicest restos I have ever seen. Back on topic. Sure wish I could go to some of these meets.

Beats me whether Bob is still alive or not. He is not banned here. Gordon and Bob apparently started their own website, from what I was told.
