Do they serve fresh local seafood, or import all their fare?

The seafood I ate tasted fresh to me...

If someone in the Keys is importing the seafood, order the chicken lol. I haven't been anywhere in the Keys that wasn't buying local if not catching it themselves.

Keys Fisheries in Marathon is a large distributor to many restaurants in the middle and upper keys. Hog fish in Stock Island has local fisherman providing their catch. You haven't lived until you've had a Hogfish sandwich, that's worth the drive on it's own.

Schooner Wharf and Conch Republic on the waterfront in Key West are both great places to eat and hangout along with the Half Shell.

In Islamorada, Wahoos on the Oceanside at the Whale Harbor is great on the second floor above the Sport fish boats and the "Island" restaurant on the ocean side just before hog heaven is a great place.

You would be surprised at the number of places Connie and I have been right on the coast selling seafood that came "fresh" from the Cisco distributor trucks. Heck, when we went up to Crisfield, MD, which is considered to be the blue crab capital, we found out that only ONE place there sells local caught blue crabs (http://lintonsseafood.com/). Everyone else imports them. And if you don't ask, they certainly won't volunteer that info. And some will just out and out lie to your face about it. I was born and raised in Maryland and ate steamed blue crabs all my life. So when someone sends me steamed blue crabs (such as TheCrabPlace.com), swearing up and down they came fresh out of the Chesapeake Bay, once I eat one, I know better. And they will CALL them "Maryland" blue crabs regardless of where they actually come from.

But in any event, yeah, we'd like to take a drive down to the Keys sometime. Been a long while since we've been down there. Of course, this really isn't the time of year to be doing that. We'd rather go during a much less crowded time of year.

Try the Square Grouper restaurant around MM 22 in Cudjoe Key. Great local seafood.
