Over charging issue
 

It has been a rough weekend! :banghead:

I didn't want to bury this in my last posting.

I also need a very reliable and knowledgeable Corvette specialist in Miami-Dade or Broward Counties. I have a 93 Convertible with 70K. Overall it is a nice car.
I am having an unusual situation with my alternator.
The Volts meter in the car is riding between 15 and 18!
I don't know what means exactly, but I know it ain't supposed to be there!

If anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate any and all suggestions.

And you're sure the Volt meter gauge is registering the correct reading?
did you test the alternator?

I believe there is voltage regulator circuitry right in the alternator that could certainly cause that sort of problem if it fails. A bad ground could also cause the voltage reading at the meter to be unreliable.

I don't know if the meter is registering correctly. I'd really like to find a trustworthy Corvette mechanic to have the car checked out and repaired.
I'd love to find a Corvette body man as well. I got tagged this weekend by a neighbor of my cousin.
I appreciate the info on the circuitry as well. This gives me the ability to understand the options that need to be checked out.

Any Advance Auto Store will put a meter on it and tell you if it's the V Regulator, bad battery, etc.. If it's the gauge then all those things should check out fine and you can assume the gauge on the dash is wrong. Hey, it's a start and it's free :thumbsup: ......... Tom :)

Shouldn't be a big deal. If your guage is correct (which it probably is), then the built in regulator (in the Alternator) is bad. Not an emergency but it will over time "boil" your battery. Not difficult to replace and readliy available.:wavey:

I am going to replace the alternator shortly.
