HVAC problem...

Yesterday when Connie (my wife) and I were heading out to Fernandina Beach, I noticed the inside of the car felt warmer than it should have. I just had the vent control open for outside air and the temps were rather comfortable. Come to find out that the passenger side vents were blowing hot air. I played around with the controls, but nothing seemed to stop the hot air blowing. Even with the A/C on, the driver side vents were blowing cold air, and the passenger side blowing HOT. Now what the hell.....

I looked through the service manuals and there appears to be an actuator that could be causing the problem. Going to run up to Champion Chevrolet early Monday and let them take a look at it. They never seem to carry parts there, so at best hopefully the tech can identify the problem and get the part on order. Actually, what I SHOULD DO is tell him to just go ahead and order the most expensive part it could possibly be causing the problem. Nine times out of ten I would be right about the diagnosis.... :ack2:

TRY THIS ONE FIRST!

RICH:

MINE DID THE SAME THING WHEN I INSTALLED A NEW A/C COMPRESSOR.

TRY THIS FIRST:

1. REMOVE YOUR BATTERY CABLES COMPLETELY.
2. WAIT 10 MINUTES.
3. RECONNECT BATTERY.
4. TURN YOUR A/C TO HEAT, HOT AS IT WILL GO! (BOTH SIDES).
5. WAIT A FEW MINUTES.
6. NOW TURN TO COLD A/C (MAXIMUM)(BOTH SIDES).
7. WHAT YOU ARE DOING IS RESETTING COMPUTER.

HOPE THIS WILL WORK. HAVE TO THANK "ANDRY" IN TAMPA FOR THIS ONE.

 I AM NOT THAT SMART!!!

I had that happen once to me. Shut off car, waited 30 seconds and "rebooted". Works fine and hasn't repeated.:banghead:

Well, the car is at the dealer's. I took it there early this morning. Tech said it could be the actuator or just the door the actuator drives being stuck. The hard part is just getting into it to look at see.

I disconnected the battery cable yesterday to try to reset the circuitry, but that didn't help any at all. Didn't know about the procedure to swing the settings from full heat to full cold, however. :banghead:

Oh well. Thanks for the help.......

REPAIR DAMAGE

WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THE A/C UNIT?:ack2:

WHAT DID THAT SET YOU BACK ($) ?:banghead:

Just got back from the dealer. Looks like they had to replace the passenger side temperature door actuator. Part was $188. Labor was $308. :ack2:

On a side note, the guy scratched the leather on the steering wheel in two places. Right at the twelve o'clock and 10 o'clock positions. I would have run it right back, but had to meet the wife after I left the dealership and had no way to let her know I would be delayed. Talked to the service advisor already to let him know, so next time I can get back there I will see what they can do with it.

Also had the low note horn replaced, as mine wasn't working, but as far as I can tell, it sounds exactly the same to me.

Damn.... :banghead:
