Nov 6-8 1987 Route 66 Reunion

Shortly after reading about this Vette reunion in the March 1988 Nostalgic Cars magazine ,my wife and I stayed at the old Days Inn on Route 60 near Tampa. There were some displays on the lobby wall about the last episode of this tv show being filmed there.

In 2002 we went back to see if they were still there. They were gone and the desk clerk and his manager assured me that nothing about Route 66 would have been filmed there as Route 66 was in the midwest. Well, I still have the magazine and that was the place! Does anyone know what happened to those displays? Maybe they are in a dusty closet there. They would be a Corvette collectors dream. I am a member of the Suncoast Corvette Association, and was involved with putting on a large Corvette show at the Days Inn when it reopened back in the mid 80's. The owner came to one of our meetings and pitched the idea of the Corvette show to be tied into the reopening of the motel/hotel. He actually had Matrin Milner and George Maharis at the two day show.

The final show of Route 66 was actually filmed here in the bay area and the old Sunshine Sky Way bridge was part of the show. As for the articles you are looking for, I wish I could help you, but I know nothing about them.
Good luck in your search, just thought this little bit of history on that location might help.

I still have the original program from the show, listing the hotel and showing pictures of the two actors.

I never cease to be amazed at all of the info that's available on this site! It's one reason that I'm a member. This is really great!

That is COOL. I wonder if that episode is available? I think I saw a DVD collection of the original series.

I think you had an 87 and you won first place in the 84-88 Class. All the winners are listed in my magazine. Good luck! I have a 95 Pace Car 16,000 miles. Jimmy Davis

Very interesting. I was about 12 years old when that show happened. It was the last time my Dad (Terry Muzzy) ever showed his black '74 coupe. We moved to North Florida and unfortunately he had to get rid of that Vette.
I too have the program with both of the actors autographs on it.
We were very active in SCA. I just recently ran into another member from the old SCA days, Don Colbeth. He had/has a Glen Green '65 roadster.
I wonder if any of you here remember those days??
I remember that car show like it was yesterday. It was at the Days Inn inside the parking garage.

If one of you guys want to get the show info to me, be it the managers name, the address of the Days Inn, etc, I'll see if I can track down some owners or previous owners and see if we can find those old documents you seek:thumbsup:

Hey Gordon,
Not sure if you're aware but that Days Inn was demolished a few years back. It was over at Rocky Point on Courtney Campbell Causeway.
I'll thumb through the program I have and see if there is any info.
Fraternally,
Andy

I know which one you're talking about. ANd the link helps a bit as well.

Let me see what I can find out? I'll work on it over the next week or so when I have spare time and see what turns up?

I know Don and just ran in to him a few months ago at a local show. He had a 57 Belaire, but still has his 65 Glen Green Roadster. I was the club president for that show and had a 77 painted Sunset Red Pearl, which is actually Classic White with the red pearl mixed in and red interior.

We actually did three Route 66 Reunion shows. The second one was also at Rocky Point, but just to the west of the original location. GM had a large office in a building there and they got involved and had a few proto types on display. The third and final show was held inside the old Curtiss Hixon Convention Center.

I am a member of SCA and there are still about 5 of us original members still active.

:rofl1: I was one of the DJs that played music for the original Friday night Route 66 show. The other was Howard Hewes of WHBO AM1040. I just purchased a red 96 LT 4 convertible, last weekend (3/09). I just joined this forum today (3/15)

Just revisiting this post.
Don is one helluva nice guy. Beautiful Vette. Absolutely gorgeous.

I was out of the Corvette community for many years, but do recall the Route 66 Reunion held in the convention center ('90?). My lyndale blue '67 roadster did not place in the show, but was selected by the children's hospital representatives as their favorite. I recall that being a great 2-day show.
