Parade of Astronauts...

May 7th, 2011, in Cocoa Beach. This may be the largest gathering of Astronauts ever assembled outside the Johnson Space Center, Astronaut Training, in Texas. The parade will start at exactly 9:34 am...the moment Alan Shepard was launched on his mission, 50 years ago. Astronauts scheduled to participate include Scott Carpenter, Mercury; Dick Gordon, Gemini, Apollo; Walt Cunningham, Apollo; Edgar "Ed" Mitchell, Apollo; Bill Pogue, Skylab; Jack Lousma, Skylab, Space Shuttle; Space Shuttle Astronauts Rick Hauck, Jon McBride, Fred Gregory, John Blaha, Bob Springer, Sam Durrance, Bob Cabana, Bruce Melnick, Susan (Still) Kilrain, Don McMonagle, and Jim "JR" Reilly; and Space Shuttle Payload Specialist John-David Bartoe. Its also the 86th Anniversary of Cocoa Beach.

Detroit is doing the following: to send 3 Corvettes for the all-day Cocoa Beach event this Saturday. They plan to send:

• 2012 Chevrolet Centennial Corvette Z06

Rare video...Corvettes/Astronauts

The video is about 4:40 minutes long, black and white, featuring most of the Corvettes driven by the Astronauts of the day…but the narration is in German. The appreciation is of course directed at viewing a very rare Astronaut/Corvette relationship and a video most have never seen.

Launch now scheduled for the 16th of May...

so, I will be leaving for California the 14th of May. This is how its done here at NASA...the California team leaves two days prior. Of course that could change with the launch once again being scrubed. :hehehe:

Either way, I'm there until it lands...either back here at KSC, or in California. If it returns here at KSC, then I leave California the next day. If Endeavour lands in California (i.e., weather), then I'll be there an additional two weeks while the Orbiter is mounted to the 747. I'll then travel with the team to each fuel stop for inspections until we return to KSC. :yesnod:
