looking for laptop diagnostic software

looking for laptop diagnostic software

HERES THE a scan tool, I PURCHASED,several years ago
auto xray ez scan 6000

IT WORKS BUT FOR THE PRICE I THINK IT SHOULD REALLY DO MORE!
and when i tried to update it today I found the company that supported the software,
is now long out of business and the up dates that they posted no longer function,
so I,m going to be forced to find a totally new diagnostic software

ok Im now looking for a decent quality , up to date, and well supported, diagnostic soft ware program, that sells at a semi-reasonable price.
if you own a lap-top based diagnostic tool, let me know the plus & minus features youve found.
that I can install in a typical lap top computer and connect too the cars OBDII port , and keep upgraded,
with a cable, to connect to the car.
to get all the available info, trouble codes and real time diagnostic info
so please suggest what you guys think is the best value
I sure don,t want to spend big bucks on a code reading tool,
that basically does not do much more than tell me what the trouble codes indicate,
and allows me to reset and clear trouble codes which is all the EZ-scan tool did well.
I might be wrong but it seems to me that using a laptop with up-grade-able software is the much more intelligent route too pursue than buying a code reader tool.
ideally the lap-top based tool and a couple connector adapters will allow a wide range of cars to be diagnosed.

Actually I have used the tuning tools (EFIlive and HPtuners) for diagnostic work and found things I wouldn't have found otherwise. Or is that different from what you are looking for?
