CCW delays?

Connie asked me about the expiration date of our CCW licenses, and come to find out that they expire on 04/01/2013. She thought we should have received a renewal application by now, and certainly that has not happened. Anyone else had any delays in getting their renewal forms lately?

I sent them an email about this and will follow up with a phone call tomorrow. Doesn't give us a heck of a whole lot of time to get the forms sent to us, fill them out, get photos, send them back to them, and get the new licenses before the expiration date.

So what then? We lose our right to carry concealed weapons for self defense because of THEIR screwup?

Similar to Massachusetts Department of Motor Vehicles. They, in their infinite
wisdom, figured it would be cheaper for the state to stop sending out the renewal
notices, and just let the drivers figure it out themselves. They never told anyone
that the renewals were being stopped, and now the onus is on the drivers to
make sure that their licenses have not expired. In our case, it's more money
for the state if they stop you and your license has expired as well, so it's a
double win for them........no renewal notice costs, and fines to those who's
licenses have expired. Don't have a clue what would happen if you were caught
carrying with an expired CCW. I just KNOW that it CAN'T BE GOOD!!!!!

I would see how soon they can take you in at the office in Tallahassee Rich. IIRC they did mine pretty quick. And carrying with an expired permit is the same as not having one. No exceptions. A friend(former LEO) got arrested for same. By the way, the new permits are good for 7 years.
The state doesn't always send renewal notices for various permits/licenses/etc. The last explanation I heard was that a private company was contracted to do these but that they occassionally overlooked some folks!?

We got a call from them dept of licensing this morning in response to my email and evidently out licenses don't expire till 2018... :o I had to break out a magnifying loupe to be able to verify that. My magnifying glass I used yesterday made that "8" look like a "3" to both Connie and myself. So yeah, it must be a 7 year license. I thought 2 years sounded right, so that was why that helped reinforce the thought that the expiration was this year.

Now it is probably marked on my record that I am blind. :ack2:

Got mine about 2 months prior...and then received the new one earlier than expected as well. And its renewed for 7 years this time.

you can now make an appointment for a renewal, it takes about 1 hour and theres nothing to do but sign the form, pay the $60.00 fee with a money order, provide the requested I.D. info and get your picture taken

"Alternatively, you can submit your renewal form at one of the Division of Licensing’s eight regional offices. You simply have to call for an appointment by contacting the office that is most convenient for you. Bring your unsigned form with you. We will perform the notary service and take your picture at no additional charge."

I got my form for a renewal in the mail about 60 days prior to the license lapse date, I called to get a second form for the wife and they told me about the appointment option, I made an appointment for about 3 days later and it took less than an hour to get the new license
