My first claybar
 

My 08 has been neglected most of the summer so i gave her a well deserved bath .I thought I'd give her a coat of Ice paste ,during the wipe down I discovered the hood felt like sandpaper.

I'd bought a Claybar kit a couple years ago so I decided to give it a shot .I watched a couple videos on YouTube to get a visual program .Although I only got half the car done ,washed and waxed it was easier than expected .

The car won't see natural sunlight till next weekend .Gotta get the car ready for a journey to Old Fort NC than on to Orlando for the winter.:thumbsup:

Yeah, wax seems to go on a LOT easier after the claybar treatment. :thumbsup:

The easiest method I've seen to test the roughness of your paint surface is to put your hand in a thin plastic Glad bag and run your hand over the paint surface. That makes every imperfection much easier to feel.

Lots of elbow grease needed, but it sure does restore the zing in the shine afterwards.

The Claybar is suppose to be used with a wetting agent of some sort. some use water or equivalent. I like to use Adams detail spray. It seems to stay slicker longer and actually smells great. Don't rub too hard with claybar. You can actually dull the clear coat. I dulled mind the first time I used it. I went to a detail clinic in Clearwater after that happened given by Adam Pitale of Adams Corporation. He showed me the proper technique and got my clear coat back to pristine shape. There are actually different grits of claybar available. So I would imagine picking the right type of claybar might be every bit as important as picking the correct polishing media. Darker paints are probably going to need a much finer grit than lighter paints just because the darker colors are going to be much more apt to show imperfections as well as hazings from the efforts to correct those imperfections.

It's going well ,the ice Claybar was labeled as light and thats how I used it with a light touch and plenty of lubricant .I didn't use the plastic bag because I can feel the roughness .I guess I'm a sensitive guy :D
