I saw the article:
:banghead:

1:10 A.M. — One man died and another was hospitalized Wednesday after their cars collided on State Road 82 in Lehigh Acres.

The names of the two drivers had not yet been released by the Florida Highway Patrol. No passengers were involved.

Witnesses told the FHP that the driver of a Corvette was attempting to pass six other cars near Bell Boulevard, FHP Sgt. George Kantor said. The collision occurred in a no-passing zone.

The Corvette’s driver and the driver of an oncoming silver Chevy Impala tried to avoid one another. But both turned toward the same side of the road to escape the crash and hit nearly head-on, Kantor said.

The driver of the Impala died at the scene.

The driver of the Corvette was flown by helicopter to Lee Memorial Hospital with possible head and shoulder injuries, said EMS chief Mike Pcolar of the Lehigh Acres fire district.

Drivers were identified in Friday's paper...

Looks like the killer should do some jail time for something stupid like that if he survives.

Kind of like that Cleveland Browns football player (Dante Stallworth I think) who killed someone while DUI? What did he serve.... 28 days if I remember correctly?

This was senseless!

My condolences to the innocent driver.

:thumbsdown:to the vette driver. If he survives, hope he gets what he deserves!

My best friend got killed on his motorcycle by a drunk driver back in 1983. He had his license suspended for 5 years....no jail time. A little money and a good lawyer goes a long way.:banghead:

Man, I see people high on all kinds of stuff wreck their cars every month and get slapped on the hand to do it again. One person I know of has had 5 wrecks this year.

And people pick on me for going down back roads mainly.

I have not heard that he was DUI in the Vette case (sorry to give that idea).... I was only commenting in the desire to throw him in jail if he survives. The money people like Stallworth in his Miami crash get a mere slap on the wrist. Stallworth was on VIDEO (traffic cam) hitting a pedestrian in Miami while DUI and he ONLY served something silly like 28 days in jail..... DUI deaths are the equivalant to MURDER in my opinion... they chose to drink and get behind the wheel they need more severe penalties. They treat DUI manslaughter like and ACCIDENT when they CHOSE to get behind the wheel and hurt someone!

als2052 10-13-2009 04:30 PM

I do recall the vette driver was in his sixties but did not remember hearing anything about him being altered....trying to pass 6 cars on that road was not smart to say the least...

Shadow 10-14-2009 09:13 AM

Rocket was just relating a personal experience he had when a friend was killed by a drunk driver, to my comment about the system being broke, people not serving time for reckless behavior.

Let's not assume that this driver was intoxicated.

I can't imagine a valid reason to attempt to pass 6 cars in a no passing zone other than simple impatience:(

Ms. AntiVenom 10-14-2009 09:25 AM

While you are on that subject did you see the news were a drunk women plowed head on into a school bus in Hernando?

Z06 Rocket 10-15-2009 06:53 AM

DUI never gets enough attention. They take the DUI's and reduce them to reckless driving charges and the person gets their license back asap. Then when they get their 2nd DUI it only technically is thir "first" since the other one was reduced to the less severe reckless driving. Sometimes they can get several DUI's reduced before they finally stick. The more DUI's you get in a specified time the higher the penalties get. If they get reduced then they "start all over" each arrest. People wonder why some drivers have to be arrested for DUI 10-12 times before anything is done about it!

THUNDER 01-19-2010 10:42 AM

think if they suspend his right to registration and his licencens wont be enough. this gives the vette community a bad rep. maybe 10 years in a priuse or something no more performance cars. i will look up the article.
