C5 AIR system

I tried searching here but came up empty.

Can somebody explain what this system is? Why some delete it?? I see alot of headers for sale, 95% don't use the AIR fittings, some years differentiate in location of the fittings, yada yada yada!!

What are the pros and cons of keeping it and deleting it??

Since we don't live in the PRK, would it benefit me to get rid of it so i can throw on some headers!!

thanks

P.S. Ray, i havent had a chance to stop by UPS to send out the trunk hammock for ya. I'll try b4 the weekend, hopefully...

air is part of the egr (exhaust gas recirculator) system. what the system does is take a small portion of your exhaust gases and recirculate it into the piston chambers. it helps the vehicles pass emission tests, and according to gm, decreased combustion chamber temperatures. many people remove it to simply clean up the engine bay. no performance gain, just loose a 1/4 pound.
