LT4 A\C problem

Here's hoping JMJunkie is checking the site, you seem to know all things Corvette.

Had the first serious buyer look at 96 LT4 today and much to my surprise the A/C wasn't working. It was working fine the last time I used it but I almost always have the top down so it hasn't really been on for about 4 months.

The pressure plate just keeps popping in and out of the rotor every five seconds or so and the compressor never comes on.

Do you think I have a major problem here or is it something minor. Saw a post Junkie had on another site about shims but not sure it was the same problem.

Thanks in advance for any insight.

No,I believe your just a little low on refrigerant!!:thumbsup:Not uncommon for a AC system to loose a little if it's not been at least used a little once in a while!!:thumbsup::thumbsup:
Nows heres the kicker,a 134a system needs to have within 1 oz of the correct charge the operate properly!!(2 oz window!) Over 1 oz under charged or 1 oz overcharged the system won't work properly!! So you really need to put a set of gauges on it so you can see the readings and know what they mean!! Chances are your only 3-6 oz Low,But it's hard to measure without a charging station or at least a set of gauges!!The Low pressure switch is probly just kicking it on and back off!!
Hope this helps,if you like you can call me Toll Free, the number is on the front page of my web site!!

Thanks Junk:yesnod:

That's a big relief, I'll just run down to my friend and mechanic for 30 years in the morning. He has all the proper equipment.

You da man !!
