Maybe a tranny swap to a 5 or 6 speed

OK just shoot me for even thinking of such a thing but tell me about swaps to 5 and 6 speed manuals in place of my 4 speed.

I want to maintain a totally stock look from above but would love the gear ratios of a 5 or 6 speed.

What kind of experiences have ya'll had? I could care less about more power, heck Tracy has given me more horses then I can ride but a really close ratio smooth 6 speed would be sweet........:toetap05:

The tremic TKO 600 5 speed is a nice conversion....the custom shifter looks identical to the stock one & even comes with a proper repro shift pattern badge.

Let me know if you want more info. Makes them so much mose enjoyable to cruise in.

Hey Ken,

I have a friend in Maryland that has a '67 coupe that he likes to autocross. But unfortunately with the rear gearing he had in the car, it was miserable to drive around on cruises. He switched the stock Muncie out with a Tremic 5 speed and he swears by it. Not sure why he went with the 5 speed over the 6 speed, but he had good things to say about his swap.

I hope this helps!

Rich it does help bunches. I do love my 4 speed but it has limitations like crazy. Would really enjoy the positives of a 5 speed. I keep hearing very good thing about them.

Ken, are you a member of the Corvette Action Center (www.corvetteactioncenter.com) ????
I know that there are a couple of guys over there that have done the swap in
C1's, C2's, and C3's. Maybe put up a post over there if you're a member and ask.
Most (if not all) of the things I've read or heard have been positive.
Here's a link to a 71 BB with a Richmond unit in it that you might want to look at.....
http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/...have-sell.html
and check out some of the links in that post. I say go for it if it suits your needs and you
have the $$$$ to do it. You can keep the 4 speed in case you want or need to part with "Goldie" (HEAVEN FORBID), or if you decide at some point that you don't like it and
want to go back to the 4 speed. Good luck making the decision..........as always,
it seems like it will be a big one.
And besides......."Goldie" will LOVE it, and will reward you with a longer interval
between repair times (not to mention the decreased $$$$ in gas :eek:)

Andy :wavey:
HIYA to Carrie from Dotty and me.
