Newbie looking for Corvette open track pals

I have been having a hard time finding any reference to Open Track activities and the Corvette community. I hope someone here will point me in the right direction.

New Corvette owner. I pick it up tomorrow in Dallis, and will be driving it home. Its an 2000 FRC. It's a high mileage car but I got it for open track events so many parts will be replaced anyway.
I would like to meet some guys who are interested in open track events. I need a lot of advice on how to set up my new car. I have been running a Replica 427 Cobra, and a Mustang 03 SVT Cobra. While the Mustang is very fast, and yes eats non ZO6, C-5's Corvettes I wanted something else.

I had an '85 Corvette which I kept for 10 years. So I am aware of engines with the distributor in the back, but my new Vette doesn't even have a distributor.

I would like to get some advice on how to set up my new car and maybe some suggestions for track related mods.

Thanks,

Jay B

Welcome to the site! :welcome:

Sorry, I personally can't be of much help to you, but surely there are some members here who will have the knowledge and help you seek.

Good luck picking up your car and have a fun drive back home!

Try these:

http://www.cfrscca.org/

And check into the Tampa Bay Possee. It's an informal group of folks that drive waaaaay to fast getting where they're going, but I believe they do some road courses as well. Great group of people too:thumbsup:

Also, check into Sebring Raceway. I know there are various groups that rent the track throughout the year for various open course events.

Hope this helps?

Congrats on the car. Race safely and welcome to the forum:thumbsup:

I'm far to old to help ya.But ,i've been down to Sebring And as Shadow has posted it's an option.

Vett boy,
You can't be that old, I got my license the year after the first Impala came out. IF you know when that was, your my age.
Anyway I know Sebring, and have run there many times, but as stated I was a Ford guy. My problem is not finding events but finding Corvette guys that particapate in those events.
Shadow,
Thanks for the references but again I am looking for Corvette specific groups.

Thanks,

Jay B

Hi Jay and :welcome: to the site. I hear what you're asking and I'm not sure this is what you want but the NCCC (national council of corvette clubs) has some high and low speed autoX events that might get you started.

I now Rich427 has done some track events and when he finally gets moved down here and gets his cable up again I'm sure he'll have some advice for you.
In the mean time, when you get home with the vette we will of course need :pics: of your new vette!!

If you are interested in Drag racing we have the all corvette Corvette Challenge series at Bradenton Motorsports Park monthly from Feb to Sept. Stay tuned for next years schedule.

Not really interested in drags. I live 15 minutes from Moroso and go out there occasionally to 'stretch my legs'. I always want to see what my car will do so I will do night or two at the drags. My Cobra (427) did 12.3, my Mustang Cobra did 12.6, I would love my Vette to do 12.6 stock but I kind of doubt it will do it.

If you'll build it they will come:rofl1:

Seriously, if you get with the SCCA and have enough vette people that are interested, they'll likely hold an event for you.

Sebring will host also if you have a group that wants to run.

Give them a call.

As mentioned, it's easy to find a track. Harder to find people to play:(

Most of our customers are road course guys, we have two r.c. z06's in here right now. One of the guys just won at road atlanta and has a sticker that says NASA on it, so Im looking on the web to see if that can help you. here is the site for that. http://www.nasaproracing.com/

Hope it helps. If it dont I can ask one of the guys
