Comin' Down This Weekend To Check On The New House

My wife and I are coming down this weekend, from Saturday through Tuesday.

Gotta check the progress on our new house, being built in Pine Ridge, Citrus County.

We were last there 2 months ago, and the roof trusses had just been delivered. It's under-roof now, and they're studding the interior.

I have to say that it's a real PIA building a house from 900 miles away. :)

Trying to get things done is trying to say the least. Subcontractors won't call you back. The builder has no answers, because he hasn't heard from the subs.

Trying to nail down things like the lighting, fans, pool, flooring, plumbing, etc. has been tough.

After at least 4 months....yes 4 months....we've still to get the info from the flooring guy and the cabinet guy. The rest of the stuff is done, JUST done.

Don't know why things take SO long to do. :ack2: Chuck

Following up my own post :) I just learned that:

I have a roof with shingles.

The "trades" are in there now doing the electric, cable and phones.

Heating and AC ducts are in.

AND....the biggest surprise, the pool is there. :) It's excavated and the concrete poured. Didn't expect that.

I have appointments on Saturday, Monday, and Tuesday AM. Then, we fly home. Gotta get things rolling on the floors, cabinets, lights, and fans.

I'm psyched to see the place. The target for completion was April, 08.

MIGHT be done sooner. Chuck

Hey Chuck,

Good to hear things are progressing. I hope you and Pat have a good weekend. Next time extend the stay a few days and come visit!

Len and Barb came down with Gary and Susan a few weeks ago, and the Gera's were down last week. Nice to see everyone.

It is tough spending money from such a long distance and not being able to see the progress. Glad to hear that the pool has been started. When our house was built the pool rough in was done very early in the construction process and then they finished it up towards the end of the house construction. I am sure everything will turn out fine with the new house!

I'm anxious to see the new place, Rich.

Hope you and Joyce are well. :) I knew that Len and Barb were coming down.

NO time for a visit this trip. Still trying to tie up loose ends.

STILL trying to nail down the flooring quote.

We have to pick new tile for the pool, because the contractor told us that he's having trouble with the tile we chose, SO, we have to pick another type.

Still gotta nail down the cabinet/counter top guy about some extra drawers and shelves.

AND...we have to pick out appliances. Pat has her eye on some SS models.

Target date for completion is still April, 08. Chuck

Hey Chuck,

When you get back to Maryland send me a PM or an email and let me know how things are going!

Things are getting a little slow in the building business right now. New house starts and heavy remodeling jobs have slowed considerably. Here in Naples you have no problems with call backs and scheduling, the subs are happy to be working. The prices seem to be competitive as well. Good luck, we are hopefully soon to be building a house in New Hampshire.

:yesnod: We did the same thing (only from farther away). The good thing was we were in no hurry so when it got done it got done. I did get a little antsy in about the 20th month. The bad part was we did it when building was at it's high and you were at the mercy of the subs (and their high quality skilled workers).

Sounds like your is beginning to move right along. Have fun, you're going to love it. Too bad you have to sit through another Maryland winter.

It's under-roof. I have shingles. The interior is studded out, and the trades have been there. All the electric, cable, phone, and speaker wiring is in.

Still have to do the intercom, etc.

I have a rough in for the pool. Next comes the sheet rock.

We did a few things on this trip. Picked appliances, firmed up the final plans on the flooring, bathroom cabnets, etc.

Lookin' like a house. :D

Forgot the most important part, the garage. :D

It's 36 x 28. One bay has a cathedral-ed ceiling to make room for my lift.

The entire floor was dropped 16" from the base floor of the house.

LOTS of room. Have a cable outlet, intercom, etc. out there too.

Looking good Chuck! You will be bailing on Maryland before you know it.
