Sad Day in Fort Myers

als2052

Road Trip!
LEO from the FT Myers PD with little more than a year under his belt with wife and 3 babies was killed in the line of duty early today in downtown Ft Myers. He never had a chance to clear his gun from his holster but fortunately his comrades took care of business. According to reports, he was first to die in line of duty since 1924. Prayers go out to his family and may he rest in peace.

Hopefully they will have some sort of benefit for this hero so the community can come out and show their appreciation...

Very sad,Prayers to his family.

FORT MYERS, Fla. - FORT MYERS, Fla. - Fort Myers Police Officer Andrew Widman was killed early Friday morning.

Fort Myers Police say Officer Widman was shot in the face when he was responding to a domestic dispute on the streets of Downtown Fort Myers.

Officer Widman never had an opportunity to fight back.

Other police officers quickly responded to the shooting.

The suspect has been identified as 26-year-old Abel Arango of Naples.

Fort Myers Police says the suspect led police on a short foot chase through the Fort Myers RiverDistrict. The gunman fired at the other officers while leading them on the chase. Police officers then returned fire, killing the suspect.

30-year-old officer Andrew Widman had only been with the Fort Myers police department for a little more than a year, joining the department after working as a missionary. He was married, with three children between the ages of 2 and 5.

I felt so sad when I read this. I'm really at a lost for words. To leave a young family and devoted wife behind to pick up the pieces. My heart felt condolences to the family.

A cop with a bright future snuffed out by some lowlife loser (in my opinon) with nothing going for him. Just doesn't seem fair.....

The lack of respect for anyone else but their own self centered greed. At least we don't have to spend $$ on the scumbag and listen to his atty say "he was a good boy".

My heart breaks for the family.....the kids are the innocents that suffer the most.

It's probably wrong to feel this way, but I really don't care!!

I'm glad to see other LEO's doing the "right" thing in the "right" way so this kind of person will NEVER do this again!!!!!

Considering the locale and proximity, I felt this even more appropriate than usual:

"A Part of America Died"
Somebody killed a policeman today,
and a part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect,
will be buried with him at his side.

The suspect that shot him will stand up in court,
with counsel demanding his rights.
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids,
and spend many long, lonely nights.

The beat that he walked was a battle field too,
just as if he'd gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
to his name they will add a gold star.

Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,
in your town or mine.
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors,
a cop put his life on the line.

Now his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
and he stands at each new rookie's side.
He answered the call, of himself gave his all,
and a part of America died.

Would you do us a favor please?

If you don't mind, keep an eye on this and if they do host a benefit or something, please let us know. Maybe we can show up en masse and support the fallen young brother and his family.

Thanks,

Gordon

Dammit!!!!!!!

The more I read these the more it pisses me off!!!!!!!!:mad:

If it's like some of the local small agencies around the bay area (including a couple I worked for after I retired as a FT LEO). Some of the guys had to work other jobs to make ends meet:( One was a pizza delivery guy (try robbing him;) ), the other drove a forkllift at Walmart:(

I understand the budgets but damned!! Pay these guys a living salary please!

This young officer apparently had to work for 2 departmentsand operate a Pizza franchise :(

Thompson's attorney, Larry Zukerman, has said his client acted in self defense. Investigators say Miktarian's gun was still in its holster when officers found him early Sunday.

This SOB better be doing more than speculating!!:mad:He better have some solid evidence up front!!

My "guess" is that he's posturing as most do in these cases. they make an unsubstantiated defense plea and let it roll out from there:mad:

Self defense my a$$!
I'd love to give this maggot a real reason to worry about his "personal safety"?:mad::mad::mad:

Sorry folks, but this stuff really angers me!
