According to my insurance agent this was mandated by the state. Pretty good deal though, first we have to buy insurance for our own cars, then we have to contribute to a Hurricane Catastrophe Fee Fund and help pay someone elses claim.
Als2052, I 'm not much concerned with the $8.00 annual fee to me either, it's just the point with the property tax situatation, and insurance costs they just go ahead and dump more on us.
