Heck, a couple of nights ago, the wife and I were looking at the moon and commented that it just didn't "look" right. I didn't realize that a lunar eclipse was taking place.

Moon shots are pretty difficult to get properly. Exposure is a problem. You need to severely underexpose the shot or the moon gets whited out. Spot exposure does help somewhat, but still, it's a tough shot to throw at most cameras. Best bet is to control exposure manually and just take shot after shot with various exposures until you get THE ONE. Tripod, of course, is a necessity.

If you can get magnification to where the moon nearly fills the frame, exposure will be a LOT easier to accomplish.

I've got a 1000mm Nikon reflex lens around here somewhere. Don't know if I have ever tried it on my digital Fuji body, though. I should drag it out and try now that the moon is full....
