Roughly 58 percent of the 1.84 million gallons of Corexit used in the cleanup was sprayed onto the gulf from C-130 airplanes.
The Dispersants actually caused more eco damage than the oil, not to mention people getting sprayed. Most scientists were paid GOBS of money by BP to stay quite. We also still don't know the full damage as it's all lying on the bottom of the gulf...killing the food chain from the bottom up. Most dispersants just cause the oil to sink to the bottom, not break down the oil. Out of sight, out of mind. Also, many of the sea mammals and sharks that were effected, would actually sink to the bottom, not float like fish. We may not start to see the full impact for another 5-7 years (via my wife the Marine Biologist).

You know the best way to break down oil? The sun. Of course how do you keep it contained long enough for it to break down. Nah, oil companies just sink it!
