Convertible Top Care

New member
I recently purchased an '06 Convertible....first convertible I've had in a loooooong time. Anything special I need to know to care for my convert top to keep it nice and protect it?
Any suggestions re specific top care products?
Any info offered will be appreciated.
Thanks.

Keep it out of the FL sun!:rofl1:

Just kidding, I've got a hard top, and never had a vert so no tips from me....sorry.:shrug01:

I used to use a product for the ragtop on my Jeep Wrangler, but for the life of me I can't think of the name of it. Maybe I still have the bottle over in the storage room.

I think what you want is something that will block UV. That is about the worst killer of the fabric. But I am sure most of them will do that as a matter of course.

OK, sorry I can't be more help. I would have gone for a vert in a flash and may well have ended up with one if I hadn't become interested in a Z06. Love the top down, but I do love the feel of the Z.
There are a number of sources of info on convertible top care and products to use. Here are a few:

I might have a few more links for you if you don't find what you're looking for:) ..........Tom

I checked and the stuff I used on the Jeep ragtop is called 303 Protectant. Did a pretty good job for me back then, but I have since fallen way behind on caring for the jeep. Matter of fact, it's a real chore having to check the tire carrier every several days to keep the Carolina wrens from building nests in it.

Tom...thanks for the info. Haven't been to the sites that you recommended...been having 'puter probs. I will check them out in a day or two. Thanks. 06 C6

I also have been using Protector 303 on my Honda S2000 for 5 years, and was quit pleased with it.
I just bought myself a new C6 Corvette with a Traga roof, so no more rag top to maintain.

RaggTopp works great. You can find it at Autogeek, com. Get the twin kit_one cleans and the other protects. I would put at least 3 coats on initally and let it dry in between coats. I also recommend letting your top dry thoroughly after you wash it or if it gets wet from rain at least 24 hours before stowing it. THis will minimize dirt in the creases of the folds and even worse mildew formation. Hope this helps.
By the way, I put this RaggTopp on my new vert in Dec. and I've yet to place anymore protectant on it in 3 months. The water still beads very nicely even after washing the car. Mark

I agree with Mark. The RaggTopp twin product kit is a great way to go. I use it on my '93 vert.

Congrats on the new vert! Hope you got a BLACK top (as I wish I had). I am on my 2nd vette conv. (both w/ tan tops) and I ditto all the previous comments about Ragg Top. Couple of addtn'l hints: NEVER leave the top down for extended periods. Not even overnite. The longer the top stays in the down position, the more difficult it is to get the creases out afterwards. Secondly, dust and dirt are your enemy. If you keep the car garaged, cover the top with a car cover or an old sheet. I use a cover (for top only) and a Califorinia duster for the car. Do not use the duster on the conv. top as it contains an oil. Remember if you allow dust or dirt to accumulate on the top and then put the top down, it will rub and grind into the fabric as you are driving.

After washing, make sure the top is completely dry before applying the Ragg Top preserative. The preservative is a sealer much like a "Scotchgard" product and will seal in the moisture if the top is not completely dry. Just my little .02 worth. Hope it helps...:yesnod:

Good information here!

 I've got some rag top cleaner out in the shead, but haven't used it yet:rolleyes: . Not sure what it is...got if from "autogeek.com" though.
If it doesn't work well, then i'll try the stuff you's recommend.
