Default C6 A6 "Sport" mode?

Been reading over the manual on the C6 and noticed there is a "sport" setting for the automatic transmission. Supposed to give firmer shifts, I guess. Also allows you to utilize those paddle buttons on the steering wheel so you have kind of an automatic manual shifter to play with. But I don't understand something the manual is saying.

It says that while you are in Sport Mode, when you come to a complete stop, the transmission will only go down to second gear, and NOT into first gear. Am I reading that right? And if so, why would that be the case? Why wouldn't you WANT to use first gear if you are in a "Sport" mode?

Anyone have any ideas on this?
