From everything I have heard, the ball bearing style turbos are supposed to be capable of spooling up quicker. It's not all that big of a deal, but if I had the choice over one or the other, at a minimal price difference, I would have chosen the ball bearing style. But it's not enough of an issue for me to consider changing out the ones I am using right now.

Thanks! I'm really curious to hear what he has to say.

One wastegate. Reason for only one from Rick Squires is that the exhaust pipes are joined by a crossover pipe or as in Rich's case an X-pipe. I too was concerned with this when we started, but the system has always functioned as designed. By the way Rich, The STS guys were here in the shop the other day and I had discussed an exhaust housing upgrade for your car to make it spool quicker. They told me that they would exchange housings. I could get the new ones hot coated and you could come in for a change. This is something that you need to do as your expense will be minimal as they are helping out on this one.

When they get back in from the PRI show, I will tell them to go ahead and send out the new housings. I will then get them coated and we can go from there. When I get everything in my hands, I will let you know and you can schedule a ride down here.

Figured I would post some photos I took a while back of the STS stuff.
First is a pic of the turbos after the exhaust side starts rusting up on you....
Hopefully it won't be too long before those rusted guys are gone and the new ceramic coated replacements are on there....
Next are a couple of photos showing the BBK airbridge and the connection to the intercooler...
The polished version of that BBK airbridge looks pretty sharp under the hood!

Spent the afternoon at AntiVenom today as Greg put on the new exhaust housings on the turbos. They DEFINITELY look MUCH better being Jet Hot coated! No more rusted brown color. Haven't had the opportunity to really try them out yet, but I can even HEAR them spooling up sooner and ever at moderate RPMs and throttle, I can feel a real difference in engine response. I'll have to post the new dyno sheet when I get back home, but it peaked at 533 rwhp and about the same torque as before. The power is plenty good enough for me, as what I wanted was to have the curve hit a little sooner than the original turbos were allowing. Wastegate is still set at 6.5 lbs, so I didn't expect any real power gain to speak of. I haven't compared the dyno sheets, but I'm thinking that the additional power may be coming into play somewhere between 500 and 1000 rpm sooner than before. I'll know a little bit more when I can look at them side by side to do a good comparison.
But all other things being equal, the turbos now DO give a marked improvement and plain old "seat of the pants" response.
I did take a video of Greg putting the car on the dyno, so as soon as I get the new camcorder figured out on how to extract and edit the videos from it, I'll post it here.
