Talking Vettes and Jets

To All Corvette Florida Members

Richard Fleming is requesting some company on what sounds like a very fun trip he is planning for the month of September. All the information and his itinerary is listed below. If you think you would like to participate please feel free to contact him by phone or email which is listed below.

Richard Fleming is looking for one or two “co-pilots” to go to Vettes and Jets on the Lex - www.vettesandjetsonthelex.com and Mid-America Fun Fest - www.mamotorworks.com/funfest/corvettefunfest.asp .

As described by the host Corpus Christi, Texas Corvette Club, Vettes & Jets on the Lex is a once in a lifetime opportunity to be a part of establishing a Guinness Book of World Records for the number of Corvettes on the flight deck of an aircraft carrier. This event is being done in cooperation with the USS Lexington "Museum on the Bay". The limit of 300 Corvettes has been achieved with registrants representing 18 States. There will be numerous other events, including public access to the Lexington Museum on the Bay, to view its exhibits as well as all 300 Corvettes, access to the Texas State Aquarium nearby, a "Street Fair", Vendors, Special Events and lots of FUN activities.

The itinerary includes:

Friday, September 14 – Texas Casino Cruise 6:30 PM – 1:30 AM -----------or Informal Corvette Forum "Meet & Greet" at the Radisson Hotel

Saturday, September 15 – “Vettes & Jets on the Lex” – Until about 5:45 PM

Brewster Street Ice House Party – 6:00 PM until ???

Sunday, September 16 - Informal Show and Shine @ Texas State Aquarium – 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM

Cruise down Shoreline Drive – 3:00 PM

Richard will be towing his Corvette that is registered to be one of the 300 on the deck of the Lexington in an enclosed trailer. Immediately following Vettes & Jets, Richard plans to drive to Effingham, IL to attend Mid America Motorworks Fun Fest The theme of this year’s event will be ‘Celebrating a Corvette Summer,’ with the customized 1973 Stingray from the movie of the same name serving as the featured vehicle. The ’73 'Corvette Summer' Stingray, driven by Mark Hamill in the 1978 movie, is one of many Corvettes in the personal collection of Mid America Motorworks founder Mike Yager. Yager’s extensive collection, which also features the priceless CERV-1 (Chevrolet Engineering Research Vehicle) and a 1964 World’s Fair Mitchell Styling Corvette, will be on display throughout Funfest. The sounds of classic rock will complement this year’s celebration of the classic American sports car. Music legends Three Dog Night will take the stage for a free concert on Saturday, September 22.

Richard is seeking one or two “co-pilots” to share driving in a Chevy Avalanche and motel costs. Richard will pay for all the gas. The very tentative itinerary follows:

Wednesday, September 12 - Leave Tampa in the morning and drive to the vicinity of Baton Rouge, La.

Thursday, September 13 - Leave the vicinity of Baton Rouge and drive to Corpus Christi

Friday, September 14 - Vettes & Jets on the Lex

Saturday, September 15 - Vettes & Jets on the Lex

Sunday, September 16 - Vettes & Jets on the Lex

Monday, September 17 - Leave Corpus Christi and drive to Austin, Texas*

Tuesday, September 18 - Leave Austin about noon and drive to Leonard, Texas**.

Wednesday, September 19 - Leave Leonard about noon and drive to the vicinity of St. Louis, Mo.

Thursday, September 20 - Leave St Louis and drive to Effingham

Friday, September 21 - Mid America Fun Fest

Saturday, September 22 - Mid America Fun Fest

Sunday, September 23 - Mid America Fun Fest

Monday, September 24 - Leave Effingham in the morning and drive to the vicinity of Montgomery, AL.

Tuesday, September 25 - Leave Montgomery arriving back in Tampa in the evening.

With multiple drivers, it would be possible to delay the departure to early morning Thursday, September 13 and then plan on leaving Effingham late Sunday afternoon and get back to Tampa the night of Monday the 24th.

* Richard has a son and new grandson in Austin he would like to visit

** Richard has friends in Leonard, Tx. (about an hour northeast of Dallas) he would like to visit. These friends have two guest bedrooms and will gladly accommodate the Vettes & Jets / Fun Fest caravan the night of September 18.
