I've used a 300mm the past two years and I'm looking for closer shots. Especially shooting from T2 back to T1 and from T3 through T5. Just gives you more options on where you can shoot.

Lost me there. I leave it pretty much on auto unless I want to force the flash to fire in bright light so the shadows are minimized.

Sorry, T=Turn. So shooting from Turn 2 back towards Turn 1 (as they exit the corner), is nice to have a bigger lens.

For example, I'd like to be MUCH closer in this shot.
