Run Flats

Just wondering how many of you are still using the factory type run flat tires. If so why?

1. Run flats
2. Non Run Flats

The Z06 didn't come from the factory with run flats. So I've never had them. I do carry my handy air compressor/tire sealant that came with my Z. Although the original bottle is expired, I bought some...Slime, I think it's called.

When it was time to replace tires I put the Firestone Firehawks on and I'm happier with them. Cut down considerably on the tire noise esp. when slowing down. I couldn't believe how loud the runflats are!

My C6 came with them and so far they are satisfactory. If I have the car long enough to replace them I will probably not get run flats due to the fact many places aren't equipped to fix them.

I just recently took the original Runflats off my '01. They only had 10k miles on them, but I could not stand the noise and harse ride any longer. I replaced them with Goodyear GS D3s and would highly recommend this tire to any Vette owner. I drove my '01 to our Florida house in Ft. Myers a few weeks ago and got caught in a down poor near Savannah, Ga. We had to slow down due to the other Corvettes that were with us were having difficulty with tire grip. But my GS D3s were very stable under me in that storm. In addition, these things really handle well on dry roads!

I took off the run-flats and went with the Goodyear non run-flats. I wish I would have shopped around more. I bought a small compressor and a tire plug kit.

I'm still running OE runflats on the 97. It seems that whenever it's about time to replace tires I find a real good deal on barely used OE ones. (Last time was a full set with 560 mi - just to drive the new Vette home - for $850.) It's getting close to time again and I have a friend with a set in his garage with under 5k mi on them so...

Well a deal is a deal and we all understand a deal
My 97 had the OME run-flats on it when I bought it 3 1/2 yrs ago with 18K miles on them and hard as a rock. While driving down 95 I jumped on it to pass a truck and the car jumped almost a whole lane over as the tires broke loose, made a believer out of me. The very next day I put a set new potenza poll SO3s on and have been very happy with them. I just put a new set on in January I got from Firestone. Mounted and balanced for $1000.
I still have the old ones mounted on the wagon-wheels to put on for rollers if needed.
