I had a drug problem when I was young

The other day, someone at a store in our town read that a
methamphetamine lab had been found in an old farmhouse in the adjoining county and he asked me a rhetorical question, "Why didn't we have a drug problem when you and I were growing up?"

I replied: "I had a drug problem when I was young:

I was drug to church on Sunday morning.

I was drug to church for weddings and funerals.

I was drug to family reunions and community socials no matter the weather.

I was drug by my ears when I was disrespectful to adults.

I was also drug to the woodshed when I disobeyed my parents, told a
lie, brought home a bad report card, did not speak with respect, spoke ill
of the teacher or the preacher, or if I didn't put forth my best effort in
everything that was asked of me.

I was drug to the kitchen sink to have my mouth washed out with soap if I uttered a profane four-letter word.

I was drug out to pull weeds in mom's garden and flower beds and
cockleburs out of dad's fields.

I was drug to the homes of family, friends, and neighbors to help out
some poor soul who had no one to mow the yard, repair the clothesline,
or chop some firewood and, if my mother had ever known that I took a
single dime as a tip for this kindness, she would have drug me back to the
woodshed."

Those drugs are still in my veins; and they affect my behavior in
everything I do, say, and think. They are stronger than cocaine, crack,
or heroin; and, if today's children had this kind of drug problem, America would be a better place.

Hell, I have a drug problem NOW. Have to take Prilosec every day. The wife has all kinds of vitamins and junk on the table for breakfast for me. And I take some goofy pills that claim to increase energy and oxygen efficiency of the body. That's the difference between being young and old age. When you are young, you take pills to get better from what ails you. When you get old, you take pills in order to keep things working like they should that WON'T without them.

Hah! I am certain my HEART would not last THAT long!

Not enough of the drug problem that Nytro's first post was about. Too many parents don't care and look to the Police for discipline of their offspring. When we lock 'em up and they get out and do it again the parents loose patience with us !?!?! They wan't us to fix 16 years of screw-ups and no parenting in one call for service?!?!? GET REAL !!:2232censored: :brick2:

Just my :twocents:

problem with those drugs is that it takes effort and time on the part of the parent.

seems people are more detached from their kids than they used to be. kids seem to be left to their own devices more. :shrug01:

large extended families don't seem to be as prevalent either. Back when I was a kid an aunt or uncle wouldn't hesitate to discipline us on the spot if we did wrong, nowadays people are scared to disciple their own children, much less someone else's. :nonod:
