Default c7carbon zr1 spoiler for c5

arrived today. i bought the fiberglass version for 235.00 shipped. no need to spend 329.00 if i am going to paint it.

initial fitment. just laid it on the car. fits pretty good. comes with four bolts to mount it. you could 3M tape it.

Have to say I did not like it before it was painted and installed, but finished pic looks good.

Personal tastes and aesthetics aside, does a spoiler on the back of the C5 really accomplish anything? I thought at speed the real issue was the FRONT trying to lift off of the ground. So does a rear spoiler make things worse in that regard?

BTW, it does look MUCH better painted to match the car color....

Well it is designed exactly like the c6 zr1. So GM thought it needed it. I won't be driving it that fast.

pics of installing.

first i measured each side using the hatch as a centering marker.

then i used some silicone i had and put around the holes to mark the spot on the bumper to drill the holes.

after laying it on the bumper, i drilled the holes where the silicone marked, using a 1/4" drill bit.

removed the taillights, pushed the bolts through. then laid the spoiler over the bolts an tightened down.

My old '78 Z-28 had the big factory spoiler on the rear and the front end of that car was super squirrely over 100 mph. I'm sure back then it was all about looks but a good front spoiler would have been nice. I would hope that by now it's more about function.

Yeah, the late '70's Z-28's were almost a decal package. I replaced the anemic 350 with a warmed over LS-5 from a '70 Chevelle SS. Surprised a lot of Mustangs with it back then. I later had a '73 Camaro with a small block and my last one was a '71 Z-28 with a 383. That was one radical engine but I liked the big block best.
