Default What gas do you suggest for a C5?

I hear that there are some premiums that should not be used. Any favorites out there and why?

Thanks,

Lynn

I tend to go to the big name dealers. Shell, Amoco(BP), Sunoco (when I can find it). I've heard that the no-name bargain brand stations buy whatever they can at the best price they can, so quality could be "iffy". And I always use the 93 octane stuff.

Yep, me too. I use 93 octane as I think the absolute best performance can be obtained from premium. I also try and use "Top Tier" fuels. Gas is purchased by the oil companies on an open market. Refining and the additives are what make gasoline "better". I am also a big believer in adding "Techron", a fuel additive, about every six months, whether I need it or not. Good stuff. It can be purchased at Chevron stations, automotive supply store like "Advance Auto", or Walmart.

I try to get to a Chevron station, but will use Mobil or BP(Amoco). The Z seems to perform very nicely on Amoco.

Welcome to the forum, BTW!! ...................Tom

I prefer Chevron when it's available. With their Techron additive I don't have the fuel quantity gage issues I do with other brands. Also, at least around here, Shell is always higher priced than everyone else. I won't forget that they took advantage after the last hurricane to come through here, selling reg. for almost $4 a gal.

Was it a company policy (Shell) or was it something the local dealers took upon themselves?

Excellent advice from exile.
Replacing the 2 fuel senders in the 2 gas tanks on a C5 (without a warranty)
can be very expensive. !

I can't answer that. If it was local, I hope those folks realize that it reflects badly on them and Shell in general. I do know that the Shell stations around here are always about .10/gal more than everyone else. Anyone else find that to be true of the Shell stations in their area?

Actually the prices at the Shell stations in Tallahassee vary quite a bit. The closer to route 10 they are, the more expensive the gasoline.

I stay away from Citgo at all costs. The company is owned by a (? Venezuelan ?) dictator that has been quoted by MSNBC as recently saying that he will do what he can to take the American superpower down to it's knees in front of the world.

I'll try to find the story again and post a link.
