Question Clear Coat?

My white C-4 is in need of a new paint job. The main reason is that the clear coat is coming off and is quite visable. In talking with the paint shop he posed the question as to whether or not I wanted a clear coat? Years ago cars did not have clear coats and if you kept them waxed they lasted quite a long time. It would save me some money and time and the owner knows how I keep my Vettes - waxed! How about some feed back....Clear or no clear?

clear. Years ago cars did not need a clear coat because the paint was tough enough to take the abuse, paint now is very soft.

I would go with the clearcoat. I understand it will cost more but you will get a better finish. Cearcoat can be wet sanded and buffed to remove scratches, orange peel etc. Single stage enamel can not. Unless they put alot of paint on the car. Enamel is a very durable paint and is great for engine bays, door jambs etc. Unless you get a good painter to lay it on smooth. Clearcoat is a better way to go. Just my opinion.

Personally I think the clear coat gives the paint DEPTH for the shine. Adds a bit of gleam that you just can't get with wax alone on the paint.
