Default Panther Crossing

I've seen the "Panther Crossing" signs by the Ft. Myers airport. has anyone actually seen any wild panthers? I've never heard of them in the news down here so I guess they're not a problem. Geez... I haven't even seen an alligator yet (although I keep looking).

The wife and I saw a few panthers years ago when we used to traipse around the Englewood/North Port area. Mostly on the then abandoned roads out in the sticks. Saw LOTS of bobcats as well.

As for alligators, head out of Naples on Route 41 going towards Miami. Make a left on route 29. There will be a canal on your right hand side as you are heading north. You will see all the alligators you ever want to see right there.

I saw one once while fishing in the eveglades. I think they really travel great distances during mating season.

Chack out the drainage ditches on Alligator Alley They didn't name it that for nuttin'

If you check out any large lake, most retention ponds of any size and most fresh/brackish water canals leading out of the bays in Florida, it's usually not long before you'll see one or 2

*edit* I'm talking about gators here!

I read somewhere that there are only about 200 Florida panthers left. If that is accurate, then you are not going to see many of them.

I just read an artical last night about a full grown male panther getting killed by a car yesterday out by the airport.

I live on a golf course so I keep looking in the ponds, they probably keep those areas under control as much as as they can. Although, there was a big gator banging at the door of a house on this street about six months ago.

I'm sure I'll see one soon enough.

I've never seen a panther in the wild, but I have come across a couple of gators. Once I was playing golf and I hit my ball into the drink. There was a gator chillin' out right about where I hit it. Lost ball! I wasn't about to hit my drop shot near the lake. The second time, I was just walking by a lake in an apartment complex I lived in. I heard a big hiss and I just ran my azz off!
