THIS VEHICLE IS THE PERFECT EXAMPLE OF THE BEGINNING OF THE CORVETTE AS SUPER CAR. THE FRC BODY STYLE BECAME THE TEMPLATE FOR THE ZO6 SERIES FROM 2001 TO 2004.
THERE WERE TWO SCHOOLS OF THOUGHT AT CORVETTE. ONE GROUP WANTED TO PRODUCE A MORE AFFORDABLE STRIPED DOWN VERSION AND THE OTHER WANTED TO PRODUCE A TRACK READY PERFORMANCE CAR. THE PERFORMANCE BOYS WON. A HARDTOP FOR HARDCORES. IT WAS ONLY A FEW HUNDRED DOLLARS CHEAPER THAN THE STANDARD.
WITH IT'S SLEEK DESIGN AND PERFECT 50/50 FRONT TO REAR BALANCE, THE FRC BECAME A RACE DEMON. ONLY AVAILABLE WITH A 6 SPEED TRANSMISSION AND THE STIFFER Z51 SUSPENSION SYSTEM, THE FIRST ONES WERE INTRODUCED TO THE PUBLIC IN '99 AND ENDED WITH THE 2000 MODELS. WITH 345 HP THESE WERE THE PERFECT STREET AND TRACK VEHICLES OFF THE SHOWROOM FLOOR. THE 2000 IS GENERALLY CONSIDERED THE BETTER MODEL. THIS CAR WILL EVENTUALLY BE WHAT THE '63 SPLIT WINDOW COUPE IS TODAY. A CLASSIC WITH FAR SUPERIOR PERFORMANCE AND COMFORT THAN THE SPLIT WINDOW.
