Firearms and Other Weapons Had a request for this forum, so here it is. Guess it will give me some place to talk about guns myself after selling my ArmsLocker forum.

Call UPS to verify, but you used to be able to ship a gun to yourself across state lines.

Personally, when I moved from Maryland to Florida, I just loaded all my guns and ammo in my Bronco and drove on down with them.

I don't know if UPS or FedEx does it without you being an FFL but i think the USPS does, just go ask them before showing up with a firearm in person, kind of a felony if caught carrying a firearm in a federal building.

if you can't pack it in your luggage and drive up there, then worst case, have an FFL down here, ship it to an FFL up there and then get it back. the downside is you would have to already have an ID from the new state with your new address before you can pick it up from the FFL.

IF you are flying you can check with your airline but most will check a hard sided, locked case with a firearm in it. you have to declare it and have them tag it and inspect it and all but you can pick it up when you land in the new state and be 100% legal.

be sure to check local and state laws as i am no lawyer or atty.

i have done this many times before no problem as long as you let them know what it is at check in. Of course I also had a military ID at the time so maybe they were giving me a break.

When I went to gun school they mentioned a law that allows you to transport your own personnel weapons across state lines .Caution the weapon must not be loaded and I would avoid having ammo in the vehicle .

New Hampshire if I'm not mistaken is an easy state to get a permit if you already have one from Florida .

if your moving addresses, across state lines and driving there, just unload it, and place it in a locked gun case put the gun case in your cars trunk and drive to your destination, its that simple.
now youll obviously want to look up the destination states laws/registration requirements etc. but whether you follow those is of course your choice and responsibility
but federal laws fairly clear
