Default Need Recommendation for good Detailing Spray

I have a black C6 ZO6. Needless to say, it is challenging to keep it looking nice.

I have tried "Eagle 1 Wipe & Shine", "Mother's Showtime" and "Ice Detailer". They all look good when I finish but they all leave a greasy film that collects dust within hours. Every bit of road dirt or dust shows up. If I use these products before starting out for a show I have to do it over again after I get there to make the car look good again.

Can anyone recommend a quick easy to use product that won't leave a dust collecting film on the car?

The problem is not the product so much as is the color of you car , my car is black also and when I wax it just sitting in the garage collect dust also, and dont forget fiberglass has a lot of static also and dust likes static .I use p21s for your info. Also check with the Adams fellow (Sponsor of the Site)he may suggest something and just keep trying until you find something that works. A well detail car wont need touch up is you go to all the step minimun of 3 every 6 months ,What I do is rubbing compound to remove any swirl marks then I glaze and last step is waxing and I wax every 2 months . I get a lots of conpliments on Lady N . when I go to the shows I clean up with good old H2O and a good microfiber rag . Also check with the backyard mechanic here. By the way Lady N was painted by us in our Home . Good Luck Click on Lady N pictures and you see the shine on it.

Thanks for the input.

When I wax the car it looks great and doesn't seem to get that oily buildup that collects dust. It's just when I use the quick detail products that I have a real problem.

It does accumulate dust just sitting in the garage. Just like you said.

Lady N looks fabulous! It's hard to believe you did that at home. looks great!
I wish I could get results like that.

I agree that the darker paints are more likely to show dust and dirt. I have a Navy Blue Metallic '01 vert and a Le Mans Blue Z06 and both of these cars show dust very easily. I have used Zaino's detail spray and I currently use Adam's Detail Spray with very good results. I don't believe either leaves a grease film to collect dust. BUT, after detailing and then driving to any event, there is an accumulation of dust/dirt that I have to remove. I have not seen anything that will repel the typical dust/dirt that we pick up on our Vettes after driving. But I will say, that my '69 Riverside Gold just does not show it as much as the vert and Z06!

Qman has a good idea

There's also Joe from Flash Products and Jason from Adam's that are on the site. Might ask one of them specifically and get thier opinions.

Default Detailing spray's

There are alot of products on the market, most of them are made to make your car look shiny. There are some good products out there that actully do what there suppose to do,and that is to inhance the polish and wax.
Without a clean base the car will always be greasy and leave fingerprints and smear marks.

Without removeing the oils and grease off the clearcoat by either claying the car or useing some type of polish, you will always have that greasy fell to the car. There are different types of polishes. The main purpose for them is to either "smooth out" the clear coat or help bring out the depth of your color.

The mild abrasive polishes, which is used to remove the swirl marks and light straches. This can be done by hand but is very time consuming,it' best to be used with some sort of buffer.

The non abrasive polishes are used to enhance the color of the paint, this also can be done by hand, but better results are gained with some type of buffer.

Claying the car and useing a mild abrasive with a buffer is by far the best way to "smooth" out the clearcoat, allowing the clearcoat to be clean and removes all oils and grease from the clearcoat.

When this is done, applying the other products, such as non abrasive polishes, glazes, waxes ,will go on faster and better. Those products will also last longer, because they are being put on a "Clean car".

Some tips on choosing and useing detail spray:
1-Look for products that are not water based.
2-Look for product that has lubricating agents in it.
3-If it cannot be applied in the direct sun,it most likely is water based.
4-Do not apply the spray onto a "hot" car, spray it onto a micro fiber towel.
5-Don't buy it because it worked on your friends car, their car may have a
different type of paint process.
6-A little goes a long ways,if you are useing alot, then it is not a good
product.

Remember that no matter how good you may think your detail spray is,if your car is not truely "clean", Then you are just wasting your time and money on that product. When I'm done detailing a car ,I can rub my hand over the paint and there will be no finger prints or smear marks. That is because the car is totally "cleaned".

For more useful tips and hints on how and why to maintain your car, just check out my website.Always happy to answer any questions.

On fiberglass cars that have a 3 stage paint, primer, base and clear,I use,

Meguiar's Last Touch Spray Detailer -produces incredible depth, shine and gloss. This spray-on, wipe-off product has a unique blend of polymeric lubricating agents that gently removes dust, fingerprints, smudges and other contaminants, leaving a flawless, showroom shine.I have alot of different brands of products for different type of paint types.I only use this product two times on a full detail, once when I'm claying the car,and after the wax is applied, just to help pick up the dry wax that I may have missed.

My advice it just try different products and use them for what they are suppose to do.My point being, would you use glass cleaner to clean your tires

Adam's Detail Spray works great. Also I use it after washing the car. I mist the entire car with detail spray and this makes the water literally run off the car. Then I use a blower to get rid of the water in the crevices. After that, drying the car with waffle towels is a breeze. Detail spray also works great on the windows and chrome. The fragrance is addicting too. Give it a try.
