Default Quality issues.

I just can't catch a break lately. Seems like a lot of things are just being made in a slipshod fashion, or the components being used are crap. Or maybe both.

Back before Christmas the amp in my Earthquake Supernova subwoofer basically exploded.

Long out of warranty, but the manufacturer said I could send it in and they would take a look. Well, it's pretty trashed, obviously, so they were going to sell me a new amp and transformer to just replace it rather than fix it. Sounded good to me, since this is the second time this has happened to that amp. I would just as soon not have this happen again anytime real soon. So maybe a new amp and transformer would be improved models.

Anyway, got it in the replacements today and had to remount the new transformer since of course the mounting holes did not match up with the old transformer. Got it all put back together and hooked the audio and power cables up to it. ***HUMMMMMMM***! Jeeesus! Hums like hell. Figuring maybe the new transformer is bad, I put the old one back in. Same thing. So it looks like the amp itself is bad. Now this sub didn't make a bit of noise before the amp explosion, so it's not like I'm dealing with a ground loop somewhere. I could have cranked it up quite a bit prior to this, and it wouldn't make even a peep outside of the audio signal being fed to it. Heck, even Connie noticed it, and she really doesn't pay much attention to things like that.

Anyway, I contacted Earthquake, but they are at the CES show this entire week, so I don't expect to get an answer real soon.

So I just wasted a couple of hours fussing with this thing instead of working on my car. Dammit...
