FL Antique Licence Plates

Can you still get those special "antique" FL license plates? (I think they are blue.) How old does your car have to be to get one?

I see them around, but my local tax collector doesn't seem to know anything about them.

Thanks.

just did a web search and found that FL did the antique tag in 1998 and a collectable in 97. It does not appear they do um now. I've seen too many on beat out , ragged out 73 Olds' to be interested.

Antique Auto tags are still available. I just put one on my '52. They are $28.10 plus any fees your county charges. They are for cars at least 25 years old.

I bought a 1973 tag (correct year for my car) at the Moultrie car show and register it every year like a regular tag (now that I know)

I tried to get an antique tag in Tallahassee but those idiots had no Idea what I was talking about and told me my 30+ yr old car wasn't old enough!!!

It doesn't surprise me that the local tax collectors have no idea what the tag is. Florida has more specialty tags than any other state, go to myflorida.com and bring up the list of tags and you will be amazed. You could probably just make your own tag and no one would know the difference. By the way, the street rod tag is no longer available. I have a 1974 Pinellas County tag on my vette and have submitted a 1952 Pinellas County tag for approval which will replace the antique tag on the coupe.

Thank you for your input and information. I now know that just because the local tax guys don't know, doesn't mean its not out there. I have to get a new tag this year for my 81, so I thought I would give it my best shot over the next 30 days.

I looked at an original 81 FL tag at one of the Vette shows and it looks exactly the same as the one I currently have on my car, the only thing was the tiny 81 validation sticker in the corner. I passed on that one.

I will let everyone know which way I went for the new tag.

Have a good week.

Larry can you tell me the county number that would be correct for Polk County that would have been on a 72 tag?

Thanks,

Ken:thumbsup:

I'm not sure what # Polk used. Pinellas was 4-xxxxx with the last numbers indicating the class of car. I will check with some of the guys at the cruise-ins this week and try and get an answer for you.

Polk Co. was #5, #3 is Hilsborough Co. - Antique tags are available for cars over 30 yoa - county numbered tags ended in 1977. I found a website that has all the info you could ever want re: Florida tags. www.floridaautoplates.com is very comprehensive. Hope all this helps.

Now you've done it

Ok I'm now looking at an Orange Counry dealers tag for my 72 BB. It's in mint condition. It would look nice on "Goldie"

How long did it take Tallahassee to get your authenticated tag back to you? Sent mine out on the 11th and nodda so far:NoNo::shrug01:

My 71 had blue FL plates that matched the cars color pretty good. It was a nice touch and was a better looking plate than most offered lately.
