Default Cape Kennedy Toy Run...1 Dec 2012

Corvette Christmas
Toy Run to Benefit Disadvantaged Children and Families

COCOA, FL - Saturday, December 1st marks the 12th Annual Brevard County Corvette Clubs Toy Run to benefit less fortunate children. All Corvette owners are encouraged to attend and bring a gift certificate, gift card or unwrapped toy or book worth a minimum of $20 for infants to eighteen year-olds and a non-perishable food item for distribution to the many families in need.
Cars will stage at Eckler's Corvette Parts, 5140 S. Washington Ave., (U.S.1) in Titusville, beginning at noon and the caravan will depart at 2:00 p.m. sharp.
The Brevard County Sheriffs Office will provide a police escort from Eckler's to Rusty's Seafood and Oyster Bar in Port Canaveral, blocking all cross traffic so the caravan does not have to stop, even on the Beachline Expressway! The Cape Canaveral Volunteer Fire Department will collect and distribute all of the donations.
A social gathering will be held immediately following the run on the waterfront deck at Rusty's - a great place to watch the cruise ships depart. And to top off a fun and rewarding day and really get in the Christmas spirit, you'll be treated to a Christmas boat parade beginning at 5:30. So tell your Corvette friends, even non-club members, to come and join the fun while helping out the less fortunate.

We have had near 125 Corvettes do this run (see pic)...lets try and set a new record!!

I have not been forwarded any photos yet...waiting on our unoffical club photographer to release what he has. And thanx to you for participating...if u did!

We had an unofficial count of 137 Corvettes...establishing a new record! This could have not been done without the best car people in the world...all of us were quite humbled with the experience once we ended up at Rusty's for lunch...the caravan remained a topic of conversation for most of the day...thanx once again everyone!!

This was our first event that we participated in with my recently inherited 1977 Corvette. My only brother that lived in Alaska died suddenly October, 2011. He had bought the Vette in anticipation of his second retirement. He retired from the Army in 1991 and was slated to retire from his position with Range Control of Ft. Wainwright, Alaska as a Range Technician and specifically supporting the 1/25th Stryker Brigade Army Combat Team.

He had just been to Florida to visit in September, 2011 to help me with our mother and her Alzheimer's. He left with the plan to buy a motor home, travel to Florida in the winter months with the Vette in tow. Then back to Alaska for the Summers. That way he could be here to help with mom. Unfortunately 20 days after he left, he died of a heart attack.

The car was shipped to me from Fairbanks in late spring this year, once it could be gotten out of the garage. So we have only have had it a short while and it's a bit rough looking. Still all the original parts but I am thrilled to have it. My brother was looking forward to restoring it and having it as his retirement toy.

This event Saturday was bitter-sweet. I knew in my heart Terry would have love to have been there for the run. I didn't take any pictures and I wish I had. I would like to send his friends back in Fairbanks some photos so they can see Terry's car is doing what he intended to do with it. Having fun in the Florida sun.

I'll check back to see if any are posted. If anyone has photos of his car specifically...it was the only tan 1977 with Alaska plates, they can email them to me: tammy@redparrottravel.com

Thank you,
Tammy & Rick

I recall your car...the Alaskan plates became quite the topic of conversation as a few of us were calling how it was quite the "Snowbird" that would travel all the way for our Toy Run...pretty much any excuse to drive a Corvette...for any distance, for no particular reason!

As for the car itself...I'm sure any form of restoration can only improve what seems a very nice car to start with...its always good to have a good looking platform to begin with that does not require all that much to bring back...good luck with it! Your brother would be proud!

Default Found one photo of Alaska '77

Found one photo from one member...although it does not show your car completely, you can't mistake it as not being yours either...wish I could have done better for you. Perhaps we'll see the over head shot soon...that should show your car from above.
