I've used a couple of Reconyx (
http://www.reconyx.com/) cameras in the past, and matter of fact am using two of them right now with satisfactory results.
The biggest issue you will have with the more inexpensive cameras is the trigger time. Some are so slow at triggering the photo that the subject has already passed out of the range of the frame when the camera gets around to taking the picture. You want as fast a trigger time that you can get, otherwise you will get a LOT of frames just showing the background and not anything that crossed the camera's path at even a modest rate of speed.
Also, some cameras will have a stealth mode that doesn't display a visible flash when it is triggered at night, to keep from spooking the animals into flight.
