July President’s Message

We had a good meeting on Tuesday night. For those of you who were not there, we are planning on having our Christmas party on the Captain J.P. Cruise Boat, Saturday, December 1st...details are in the newsletter. Since it was a short meeting…here is a story that all might enjoy…I know we women will…

Bubba and Ray (Tennessee mechanical engineers) were standing at the base of a flagpole, looking up.
A woman walked by and asked what they were doing. We're supposed to find the height of the flagpole," said Bubba, "but we
don't have a ladder." The woman took a wrench from her purse, loosened a few bolts, and laid the pole down. Then she took a tape measure from her pocket, took a
measurement, announced, "Eighteen feet, six inches," and walked away. Ray shook his head and laughed. "Ain't that just like a woman! We ask for the height and she gives us the length!"

Bubba and Junior are currently doing government work supervising the
reconstruction New Orleans Levees.

Meeting Minutes for July 16, 2007

The meeting was called to order by
Judy Galewski at 7:02 PM.

Judy asked if there were any corrections to last month’s newsletter – a motion was made that June’s newsletter stands approved as circulated.

TREASURER REPORT -

Sue Burch read our current expenses and bank balance. If anyone would like a copy
of the report, please contact Sue.

VP WAYS & MEANS -

Marshall Lieberman announced that we have 62 members and 44 cars and we have 34 NCCC members.

At the request of Sue Burch & Marshall
Lieberman, the club voted to hold paperwork for three years. All old data can be destroyed.

GOVERNOR’S REPORT –

Bev Dobbins advised us that we did not wind the Web site NCCC competition. We were disappointed. However, we all feel Linda is a winner! She is doing a great job on the site. Also, there will not be a Governor’s meeting until September. Bev did submit the request for our NCCC event in January 2008.

Bev will be having a board meeting at her house on August 4 for the Board to start the planning of the NCCC event.

PUBLIC RELATIONS CHAIRPERSON REPORT - Armando Sampedro reported that parking at Mango Mania was pretty good for the Corvettes.

On Sunday, August 5th, there is an event in Davie, Florida – Cruisin – Lunch. There are 38 Vettes signed up and will be meeting at various turnpike exchanges. The Bracketts will be representing our club and for more information, check Corvette Forum Com.

Armanado also reminded everyone about August 11th - Ft Myers River Cruise.

Check the site – www.windingroad.com for a preview of the C7 Vette in the Winding Road Magazine.

There will be more information appearing on the Corvette Florida.com site about 2009 Bowling Green event.

The emission testing may be brought back into the state. He will keep you posted.

VP OF COMPETION REPORT –

Dom DiBattista was not able to attend the meeting. Joan discussed upcoming events and requested the members’ review the last few pages of the Newsletter and check the link sites for more information about the events that they may want to do as a club event.

William L. Mitchell
Part I

Here is another strong willed leader appearing on the scene, which sure bodied well for Corvette.

As a young boy having moved to New York he began sketching scenes of exotic cars he noticed at big hotels. His drawings so impressed Harley Earl that he was hired at GM in 1935 and within a year he headed the Cadillac design studio.

In the following years, he worked closely with Earl and was groomed to replace the old master and did in 1958.

Though a dominate and sometimes difficult leader, Mitchell’s position at GM carried heavy push. The very late 50’s and very early 60’s showed little major change in styling for Corvette. The main reason was that Chevrolet had other priorities – The Corvair for one (Ed Coles’ technically advanced compact) and the Chevy II.

However, Bill Mitchell sure had an ace up his sleeve with development of his Stingray Racer – the old XP-87. He purchased the “white mule” for $500 in 1959. Here was the first use of “Sting Ray” to the Corvette world. Mitchell would have to campaign the Corvette Racer with his own money and he did.

Wow how this racer would influence Corvette from 1963 and on was amazing.

Linda Duschel

Date – August 21st

When – THIRD Tuesday of the Month

After the 4th of July Parade, during lunch,
Bruce Vogel was happy to share his recipe for Seafood Chowder with Joanne Irons and she thought that you would like to have this one.

Seafood Chowder

1 pound tilapia
1 pound popcorn shrimp
1 pound baby scallops
(Or you can use regular size scallops)
Boil the above

16 ounces cream
1 – 15 ounce can Clam Chowder -
(Generic – Publix)

Add the cream slowly as you might want a little less. Simmer, and then add the seafood. If you want it richer, add a ¼ stick of butter.

Bruce received this recipe from an employee of Captain Con’s restaurant.

Enjoy!!!

We’re happy to hear that Dave Newman is doing much better.

Harold Hoover is still under the weather and could use some cheering up from his friends.
Please send a card to let him know we wish him well.

If you are aware that one of our members is ill, just had surgery or a death in the family, please let your secretary know, we will put the information in the newsletter or e-mail our members, so we can all send cards to help cheer them up. Thank you
