Default Squeeky Brakes

I'm out of my mind with these squeeky brakes. At 8,000 miles the brakes started squeeking....LOUDLY....and back to the dealership it went. After three trips to the dealer they finally decided they had enough of seeing me and put on new brakes. Maybe 4000 miles later they were squeeking again. The guy at the dealership told me "If you want to stop on a dime, you have to expect change" Although the quote was humorous, the squeeky brakes are not. Is there anything I can do? Is there something the dealership should have done differently? This is very embarassing and apparently the dealer won't do anything else about it. Is this common with the C5's? Mine is a 2004.

I know that the milage is low, but are they stock pads or an aftermarket like a ceramic or something?

I believe they are stock pads. The dealership at first tried to grind the pads the opposite direction thinking there was a piece of metal sticking out (please....I'm a female and even I knew that was stupid) and then they tried Disc Quiet, and then finally new pads. I know they are metal and that's why he said "if you expect to stop on a dime, you have to expect change" metal on metal...blah blah blah. I just don't believe there is nothing else they can do for the brakes.

I would avoid the dealership. Obviously they feel that they have exhausted their effort anyways. Is there a reputable brake shop near you? It's what the specialize in and they may have some recommendations and most of them will offer a free brake inspection. Good luck and keep us posted.

C5 brakes are known to squeak. Actually, all high performance brakes squeak and create a lot of dust, but tend to stop on a dime as designed. Your remedy is ceramic brakes which are quiet and don't dust. Although ceramic brake are quiet and don't dust nearly as badly, you won't want to road race with them. Stock brakes or brakes with a similar design as stock is better for that. Ceramic will fix you up .........Tom

I agree with Tom:

I have "HAWK HP CERAMIC" brakes and recommend them over factory pads.
.
Hawk Performance is a unique ceramic composite formulation specifically developed to meet the ultra-low dust and low noise attributes of Original Equipment ceramic brake pads while maintaining the high friction levels professional brake tuners have grown to expect from Hawk Performance. Hawk Performance Ceramic Brake Pads do not compromise performance and offer a solution to many consumers' number one complaint: DUST!
.
Performance Ceramic Brake Pads also feature a fade resistant, linear friction profile that allows your ABS brake system to work more effectively.
.
Hawk Performance Ceramic Brake Pads — Quiet, Clean, Safe and Fast Stopping.
.
Key Features & Benefits of Hawk Performance Ceramic Brake Pads:
.
Ultra-low dust
Improved braking over OE
Stable friction output
Extremely quiet
Extended pad life
Increased rotor life
.

I asked the dealership if I could put something other then metal on that car and even offered to pay extra if it would stop the noise and they said no, so I guess I need to take it somewhere else. Thank you all for your help....and just so I don't get the usual "you are woman therefore you are stupid" type attitude from the brake shop, what should I expect to pay for these ceramic brakes?

I'll be sticking to stock on the Z for now. I like the performance aspects and don't mind the dust and a little noise. Ceramics are a good, if not the only, choice for low dust and low squeaking...........Tom
