brake job question

ive done enought brake jobs to be comfortable on just about any vehicle. however yesterday i came across something ive never seen. the vehicle is a 01 chrysler 300m. the brakes are completely shot. no brake pads. all rotors are destroyed. i pulled front passenger side tire, opened to brake fluid resovoir, removed what was left of the pad and tried to depress the piston. piston would not budge. put a c-clamp on it and it still would not move. any ideas or suggestions.

it blows my mind spending that much money on a vehicle and not caring for it. in my limited knowledge the only thing i can come up with is the piston is over extended and needs to be rebuilt, but again, ive never seen or heard of this condition

i was trying to work around that. part of the problem is my friend got laid off and has been forced to take up a far less paying job. he is completely broke. a rebuild kit cant be that expensive, but do you think they are completely shot? hes already looking at $200 in new rotors and pads. he is extremely broke, so im trying to dothe best i can to help him.

You should be able to find rebuilt ones for $30-$40 dollars at a parts house. I found some online for $27-$36 dollars plus shipping so a parts house shouldn't be much more. I would replace both of them and flush the lines. Rebuild kits (if you can find them) will probably cost as much as the rebuilt caliper.

your absolutely correct. i went down to autozone and they told me that remanufactured calipers were only $40 front $30 rear. amazing. also because the piston was so far extended it was most likely not seating correctly, thus could not be compressed. not sure what friend wants to do but at least i learned something. thanks for everyones input

lol, hes getting shipped off to the army so his parents paid for it. think he got charged over a grande to get it done at a shop. oh well i tried right.
