Newbie to Site
I picked up this site off of the Corvette Forum and thought it would be a good thing to check out. My wife and I own a '69 BB Riverside Gold convertible and a '01 Navy Blue Metallic 6 speed convertible. We currently are permanent residents in Maryland but we just built a home this past year in Ft. Myers. We will be relocating to Florida sometime towards the end of next year.
We have owned the 69 for 17 years and have been very active in the NCCC during that time and I am also a member of NCRS. We will be looking for a club in the SW area and I thought this might be a good place to start looking at club opportunities. That way, when we get down there permanently, this part of the move process will hopefully be over. Well thanks for listening! |
:welcome: aboard, glad to have ya!

I wanted to move to a place that was more tax friendly than Maryland and a place where I can play golf and with my cars 12 months a year. We settled on the SW side of Florida and so far we are very happy with our decision. But I do have one question for you. Does the mail carrier know that he is delivering a live snake in that package? |
Welcome to our new home Rich. Glad you found us. If we can be of any service, just let us know.

Yeah, Maryland had a lot of things I was glad to get away from. Gun laws being one of them. And I lived in a town house with a postage stamp sized front lawn and an equally small one out back. Right alongside the beltway. Quite a difference with what I have now. Anyone who can see my house is trespassing. :reddevil: FedEx stops here and transports my animals for me. And yes, I have a contract with them for shipping live snakes. The previous driver still talks about the time I showed him the two headed snake I hatched out last year. But heck although it is against the law, I am sure my local post office would accept snake packages from me. My wife takes them Christmas cookies every year so they are pretty accommodating. We once got a letter that was ONLY addressed: Rich and Connie. Crawfordville, FL 32327. And they delivered it to us. :) |

Want to extend the welcome also. We're in Lehigh, a neighbor to the east of Fort Myers. There are several clubs you can choose from in SW Fl. I'm a member of the Southwest Florida Corvette Club, we meet in Fort Myers. Then there's Corvettes on the Gulf, they meet in North Fort Myers, I think. And, then there's Corvettes of Naples, and they meet in Naples. We participate in each other's events so it works out nicely. When you get settled let us know and we'll give you info on the clubs.........:welcome:

I am familiar with Lehigh Acres. Our new home is in Gateway, which is just around the corner from you. My wife and I get down to the house every 6 to 8 weeks, or so. Our next trip down is in the later part of June. I had heard about all three clubs and really want to find out about what each has to offer. I have been in the Bel Air Corvette Club since 1990, was an officer of the club for a while. I have run events such as rallies, autocross, and even an economy run (which no one ever does anymore). Our club was one of the host clubs in the East Region for the NCCC national convention that was held in Hagerstown, Maryland three years ago. So, I have been around the club scene a while. But I primarily want to find a club that my wife and I can enjoy from the social aspect, and then just occasionally do an event, or so. I am assuming that most of the Florida clubs will be in Orlando for the convention in August. Our club was going to bring quite a few cars down, but when the cost was published it turned a few people off. My wife and I had made plans to take vacation that first week in August to come down and do a few days at convention and then head to the house in Ft. Myers. But with the registration fee at $225 a person, plus hotel, food if you don't want what is served at the evening events, we just decided to bring another couple or two, straight down to our house instead of doing convention. So, if you or any of your club members are not doing convention in August, maybe we could meet and swap Vette lies over a malt beverage somewhere. I will be bring our '01 Navy Blue Metallic convertible and one other couple will be bringing there '02 Magnetic Red (Lingenfelter modified) convertible. If you are doing convention, maybe we can meet during our June trip, but you would have to put up with us in a rental car. Anyway, thanks for the welcome and I am looking forward to talking to you about the clubs in the area. :wavey: Rich & Joyce |

Hi Rich
Social is the key word to all the clubs here. Only a few from some of the other clubs are going for NCCC points, and that's a guess. We're into casual shows, parades, lunch and brunch, day trips, and local events. Very low key. You've hit the nail on the head about convention this year. Many thought they would go until the prices came out. So, August might be a nice time to have a get together. There's lots of time in between, though. If you're down in June why not come to our meeting, even if you're in a rental?? The meeting is the second Tuesday of each month. It's June 13th, but we're going bowling June 11th and dinner after if you'd be here and interested. Why not email me sometime and we can talk?? We can line you up with the other clubs, too. |

Welcome aboard Rich. I moved down from the Mason Dixon line 27 years ago to the Tampa area. No regrets!

Thanks Larry. We can't wait to get there full time!
