Not yet, but one day....
|
need to keep you in mind for our next trip
|
I've been to the website and seen several vids from bikers and from some vettes. I've even checked out the maps to see where everythings at, but I never seem to be going to that part of the country. I drove the Blue Ridge and Skyline back in '96 when I went to Corvettes of Carlisle. Almost no traffic and middle of the week....had a blast! Must have driven back and forth across the Lynn Cove Viaduct 10 times :D
|
Many times on motorcycles but not in my vette. Once in my truck with the trailer... that was no fun.
|
Ya mean this place?

Not yet, but it is on the list. I have a map of it on my desk. Work tends to interfere with my leisure time and daydreams. All I can say is that I would make a real good rich person. :rofl1:

I did, got the photos to prove it. What a blast that was...
Rene:thumbsup: |
For those unaware the Dragon is open again. It was closed for about 6 months due to major rock slides .
I've run the Dragon several times and other area roads .Always fun :D |
Been there and done it twice...never gets old...
|
Traci and I...
did the 'Dragon' though both states...about 30 miles...with her driving the full length one way and then I drove back those miles to our starting point. All this after nearly 5 days in Bowling Green at the NCM for their 15th Annv celebration in September '09. :yesnod:
After Bowling Green is when we went on down and drove the Dragon in our '06, and man-'o-man, if there ever was a road made for the paddle shift of the C6, this was that road! :dancer01: From there we went on to West Virginia to visit my mom after a week long trip. :D |
and man-'o-man, if there ever was a road made for the paddle shift of the C6, this was that road! :dancer01:
When I was there in my '07, I kept the paddle shifter in third, and never downshifted or upshifted the whole time. Third gear gave me both the low end torque to accelerate out of the curves, and the engine brakeing drag to slow down for the next one. What a barrel of fun that was. |
Not only have I driven it several times. I got to do the ultimate. A friend handed me the keys to his C4, got in the passenger seat and said, "Drive it like you stole it." Not only did I enjoy my best drive through the Gap, but I made my buddy throw up! He started screaming for me to pull over and as soon as we did, he was barfing his guts out. I was so proud!:dancer01:

Dragon
I have on a motorcycle before but not since I purchased a Vette.
the best ride I ever took was on the BRP ( Blue Ridge Parkway) I highly suggest taking a trip on the BRP if you ever get up to NC there are plenty of scenic pull overs, restaurants, campgrounds, Inn's & resorts along the route that would make for a great Vette trip. |
Been a long time since we have been on the BRP. When Connie and I used to live in Maryland we once decided to take that route down from Maryland on one of our vacations to Florida. After about a day of travel, we still weren't south of Richmond, so we figured it would take us about two weeks to finally get to the Florida line that way and headed east to catch a quicker route.
But man there were a LOT of deer and several bobcats spotted all along the road. Would be a gorgeous drive if time wasn't a consideration. |
My sweet wife and I will be going to NW corner of GA. for vacation this year (as usual) and have found and obtained permission to trailer up "Peek" and leave the TrailBlazer and trailer at the reality Co,s owners home so we can spend the week and a half running all over the Blue Ridge. The Tail of the Dragon will be done.
I suspect the Vette is going to be as giddy as I will be. Yee Haw. |
Bear in mind that speeding tickets are likely a major source of desperately needed income for that area......
But otherwise have lots of fun there! |
We tamed the Dragon...
...back in '09 when we were returning from the National Corvette Museum national caravan. Not only did we do the Dragon, we did all 30 some miles to include North Carolina as well. Traci drove the whole route 129 east, I drove it all the way west.
|
Rich, thanks for the info. Speed will be a non issue. I just want to enjoy the ride(s).;)
Jack, I have heard of several roads including other portions of 129 that are being added to routing all the time. Even Molly is going to get to spread white dog hair all over the interior. |
You be careful out there my friend...
tons of bikes...usually the age where they think they are bulletproof. If my memory serves me right, at peak seasons, a motorcyclist is 'lost' almost on a weekly basis.
Either way...the car is challenged...especially when you're doing over 300 curves in 11 miles...obviously more if you're doing the whole thing into NC. Say hi to my other GF for me too! LOL :hehehe: |
Reminder if there is a passenger Dramamine is a must. Those who say I don't get car sick will.will. I've hit it hard six times and I get the flip flops .
My next run will be in the fall when I take the car south for the winter. There are always some people from various Corvette Forums that group up ,about 8-10 cars . I'll post here next October. |
Dragon Slayer
I did it on a Goldwing a few years back. I will go back with my C5!:dancer01:
