Is Your Corvette Differential Making Noise???

06 C6

New member
I have an '06 C6. Ever since I had the car (1 yr) I noticed that the rear end made noises when I turned slowly, such as a "U" turn in a parking lot. I recently took my car into my Chevy dealer and asked the service mgr to take a short ride with me so I could have him hear the problem. He never got in the car. He knew what was wrong. He said that GM has been having some differential problems with some recent Corvettes. Apparently some clutches in the diff do not have enough clearance so they make noise and it requires a rebuild of the entire diff. There is no "official" recall by GM, but they are fixing the problem, if you call it to the service writer's attention. He said they have repaired one '04, several 05's and a few '06's. Do you have such a noise in your rearend?
Take it to your Chevy dealer. They'll fix it...whether your car is in warranty or not.

Had the same problem and the TSB calls for fluid replacement first and if that does not fix the problem, then replacement of the clutches. Had both done at my local dealer and the clutch replacement fixed the problem.

rearend noises,

My C6 has a bit of a rearend chatter though not bad at this time,im not in the habot of doing holeshots so ill keep an ear on this problem, has anyone had a problem with stiff slow shifter opperation almost acts like it would if it was below 30 outside.

Hi! I have 2000 C5 with about 54,000 miles on it and get that same noise on slow turns. You stated that the chevy dealer will fix this whether the car is in warranty or not. Does that hold true for a vette my age?

Hey, cwbeachbum, I'd take my C5 into a Chevy dealer and chat with the service mgr. If your car is truly making the same noise as mine due to the same problem, I'd say they'll fix it. It sort of ticks me off that there is no
general recall.

My C6 '06 had the same rear end noise- only when backing up slowly and turning. They replaced the fluid as a first try- has been OK since then (about 3 months), but we'll see. Thye did say that if the fluid change did not work, would have to be rebuilt.

Hi. Thanks for the response. Just wanted to let you know that I had the differential fluid changed by my local corvette specialist here in clearwater and the noise has gone away. :dancer01: The problem I have now has to do with a very slow internal leak in my 6speed tranny. It only makes the casing greasy and leaves a spot in the driveway smaller then a dime. My mechanic checked it out and told me it is an internal leak and checked the fluid level which he stated was okay. He suggested I wait till I replace the clutch to fix it but I keep thinking this should not be happening. The internal seals should last longer then 57,000 miles and feel this is a factory defect. Have you heard any others having this problem? Thanks in advance, Phil

Only time i hear noise is when i'm backing out or turning into park, i always thought it was the tires rubbing.

Just going to a dealer scares the crap out of me!

Yeah. i have a friend in clearwater with a new '07 Z06 that is getting this sound and I think he has only around 3,500 miles on the car. He is going to the dealer to get it fixed under the warrenty

BEWARE

Whatever you do don't take your Vette to NIMNICHT Chevrolet. They stiffed me and left everything undone when I went to pick up my vette. Please don't make the same mistake I did.Nimnicht chevrolet :2232censored: .

Hi!! Sandman, I read your writeup on Nimnicht chevrolet last month and don't worry I won't take my car near them. I recommed Vern's shop on Seminole blvd if you are in Pinellas county. He is honest and will only fix what needs to be fixed and his prices are reasonable.

Thank You

Thank You for the info on the shop that won't screw us. I sure hope that someone from Nimnichtt reads this. The guy said he has been working on Vette's for 22 years. It certainly didn't show from what my car looked like when I picked it up. They wanted $600.00 to change my ignition Module and coil. I told him I had already troubleshot my ignition system and it was working good. You know that an ignition module and coil costs total $40 bucks.. $540.00 Labor. I am in the wrong business. Thanks again. My parents live in St. Pete so next time I am down there I will chek out your guy. Thank You again bro.

my 01 ZO6 makes noise...the jar of marbles noise. When I stop I stop in gear. At a light I keep it in gear with the clutch in. No rhyme or reason when it starts and stops. I keep the music on for the most part.

Hey Qman, I just had the fluid changed on my 07 because the rear differential was making noise when I made a slow turn to the left. The Chevrolet dealer fixed it in less than a half hour and it's been fine so far. Mark

Clutch Chatter

Hi,
I have a 1 month old 2007 vette with clutch chatter. I took it in and the dealer changed the fluid - said there was a bulletin on it - but the problem persists. The dealer acknowledged it but said that all the 2007's were like that. I'm finding that hard to believe. I had a 2003 Z06 prior to this car and never had a problem with the clutch - or anything else for that matter.

Does anyone else out there have chatter - and if so - what did you do about it.

Thanks for any info you can share.

same chatter here........sounds like it is a throw out bearing. It doesn't effect driveability. But it can be annoying.
