painting rotors

my rotors are terrible looking. work great, look like @ss. id like to paint them. im planning on painting everythere the pads doe not touch. whats the best way to prep them (get rid of the rust) just them with a grinder with a high grit wheel? anyone else have experience with this?

Are you painting the rotors or the calipers?

Don't paint your rotors,They will smell funny after a few stops.:ack2: To get the rust off your calibers,just take some sandpaper and sand down enough to allow the paint to stick.If you are using a spray the first primer them and them spray on the coats of paint you want.If you are brushing the paint on sand as before and clean with brake cleaner and let them dry and paint.I did mine and they turn out great,took a while but I like the results.Just make sure they are dry before painting.If you are planning to take off the calibers from the car then you can use hair dryer on low to quicken the drying process,if you don't remove the make sure they dry in the shade,if the are in the sun light the paint may run.Good luck with that.I got the paint kit at walmart for about 13$.You can't tell the difference between mine or the real zo6 calibers.Check out my pictures in my gallery.Hope this helped.Rob:thumbsup:

I would just hand sand the hell out of them and use a high temp paint like engine enamel, they get pretty hot

If all you are wanting is the center hub done just sand and engine spray paint, mine arent nasty anymore

You cannot paint the braking surface of a rotor. I hope you mean the hubs! These areas can get very very hot esp if you track the car, use high temp paint and it will still chip after awhile

I bought drilled/slotted rotors for my Vette from a Chevy dealer not realizing that after a while, the hubs would rust. :shrug01: They did and looked terrible. :ack2: I took the wheels off, sanded the hubs and painted them with high temp black paint. I did this last year and the hubs still look good. :yesnod:

sounds good. however im more of the home garage mechanic. i like working on my car (also i dont make enough money to pay someone else to work on my car for me.) thanks though. ill stick with some hand sanding and some hi-temp caliper paint.
