Years ago I acquired a 1980 VW diesel pickup truck. Basically a VW Rabbit El Camino if you remember what they looked like.

Me and an engineer friend were going to leave the stock front wheel drive powertrain intact and install a radical Oldsmobile 455 Toronado engine and transmission in the bed of the truck driving the rear wheels via Ford 3/4 ton lock-out hubs. It would be covered with a camper shell so no one would know there was even an engine there. We were putting open headers exiting out the top of the camper shell, no radiator as it was only going to run a quarter mile at a time.

It never came to fruition though, my brother ran the little diesel hot one day and cracked the head and a guy offered me more than I paid for the thing when it was running so I sold it. That would have been a blast though to show up in a diesel VW talkin smack to the local rodders and then fire off that 455!
