C5 check engine light
TX Momma's check engine light came on roughly a week ago. I went thru the codes in the car and it showed P0410 HC, When I looked it up, via this link i've got for codes...it's for the "Secondary Air Injection" (air system).
Anyway, I cleared the codes and it went off for a day, then came back on. So, I cleared the code again (in case I goofed the 1st time). It's been 3 or 4 days now and the check engine light came back on.
Anyone have ANY idea what it's talking about (Secondary Air Injection)?

The secondary air system is the air pump that pumps air into the exhaust when the engine is cold to complete the combustion of the rich mixture during warm up. The Computor has detected a problem with the system. It usually creats no drivability problem but is an emissions problem only.

Possible causes:
-Low system air flow
-Excessive exhaust system back pressure
-Moisture, water or debris ingested into the AIR pump
-Pinched, kinked, heat damaged, or deteriorated hoses or vacuum lines
-Restrictions in the pump inlet, duct, or filter
The car will run fine with the system inoperative. It only runs during startup to help the CATs light off faster. It does this by injecting air into the exhaust.
The pump is located inside the front fascia on the drivers side. You'll find its intake connected to the engines air intake. It's a small squarish box. Also check fuse for pump.

It depends on the exact nature of the problem, as different emission devices carry a different mileage limit. Read your warranty manual for confirmation. Good luck!

I get the feeling that it's the (after market) ait filter system. It probably needs cleaning.

Most aftermarket air cleaner systems should be rather easy to inspect visually for blockage. If it does turn out being the case, you may want to try to find those filter covers like STS puts on their air filters. Those things are amazing! They are almost like teflon in that NOTHING sticks to them at all. I live on a dirt road and those air filters are in back right behind the tail lights. After a month following the install, I decided to inspect them thinking I was going to have to take them out and clean them thoroughly. I was SHOCKED that they looked brand new with not a speck of dust on them.
I don't know if anyone sells those covers separately, but they SHOULD! They would be worth their weight in gold.
Anyway, good luck fixing the problem.
