Everyone has that issue sooner or later. You have to buy a new column lock or a column lock bypass

What year is it??
Has it had the recall done??
Is the Battery up to snuff??
How old is the Battery??
Pull the codes,and let's see what's happening!

How to Pull Codes:
1. Turn your key to the "ON" position, but do not start the engine.
2. Clear any present messages by pressing the RESET button.
3. Hold the OPTIONS button down, and press the FUEL button 4 times. (This will get you into the "codes" section of the DIC.
4. The computer will automatically display all the codes your car has created. It will cycle through each code every 3 seconds. (Have a pen and paper handy to write down the codes)You will have to wright quick!!

When finished, simply take your key out of the ignition.

Angry Corvette Forum

Sorry to send you away but go to Corvetteforum.com and under the C-5 "Tech" section is a "sticky" titled Column Lock. Click on it and read it. This has been an ongoing problem since '97 and if you are just experiencing it, you are lucky. I've had mine done three times. Finally after the third time, I talked the dealership into just jerking out the whole crappy thing! Good luck!!!
