new to the corvette world!

hello my name is teo im 21. i previously owned a 2006 ford mustang gt (no bashing please lol). the car had a built motor turbo charged, the works. it put out 600rwhp and 613 rwtq on 13.5 psi and was just about to crank up the boost to 20psi but the car got totalled and im looking into starting a new project with a new powerplant. ive always liked the vette and im pretty sure thats what im getting next. just dont know which one. ive been looking into a c6 or a c5z06. just wanted to know what the stock motor will hold on both cars? like i said im very new to the corvette world. any input will be greatly appreciated. thanks guys

Welcome aboard!

I think you'll be happy with the Corvette platform. Handling should be a definite improvement.

As for potential power on a stock block, well, I was putting down 530 rwhp with just 6.5 lbs of boost from the turbos from my stock LS6 in the C5Z. But 13.5 psi might be pushed the envelope with those stock pistons and higher CR of the LS6....

Its o.k. I own a ford that is pushing about 600 at the real wheels too!

But its built ford tough with Chevy stuff and its almost 60 years old...
and my first car was a 71 Mach1 that I really wished I kept and ripped the Cleveland out and threw something more modern in like the truck.

Well my young friend, first a hearty welcome to the site.

Second, and I sincerely hope the following is received in the spirit it is intended, but I know many current Corvette owners who were pony drivers previously, and the resounding theme I hear from them time and again is the two cars are as different as night and day in virtually every aspect.

I would suggest that you find your best deal first and get to know the Corvette very well before you jump into performance modifications. From the factory, the car is very balanced, start adding horsepower and you upset that balance and it will be VERY unforgiving and costly.

Third, the cost of modifying a Corvette to comparable power levels in your Mustang is quite high, even if you can turn wrenches.

And lastly, not insulting you by any means, but if your Mustang was totaled due to driver error, you might want to tread very carefully. Exceed the Vette’s comfort range out on the street or strip, even at stock HP levels and it will bite you in the ass in a heart beat.

first thank you for the warm welcome! i know these two cars are two very different machines. what i like about the vette is that its alot lighter than my old stang and the motor has alot of potential. ive driven a couple of my friends vettes and honestly love the way they drive. and its not insulting at all i appreciate your concern on the matter and any information is welcome. the car was totalled by my friend i let him borrow the car and he got cut off on the highway while it was raining and the car spun out and hit the wall. i consider myself a pretty good driver with lots of respect for these powerful machines. still have alot to learn though. thank you for all the input like i said im very new to the vettes and trying to get a good understanding before i jump into one.

wow those are really good numbers specially for amount of boost. the car must move out! thats what i would like to do buy a vette and ultimately twin turbo it. what is the cr on the ls6?

Compression on the LS6 is 10.5:1.

Welcome aboard from one of the old guy's.

I took the same path over 40 years ago, sorta. I had a '55 chevy punchched out to 302ci with a 4 speed at 16, built that car from the ground up with used parts from friends. A '57 Austin Healey 100 and put the 302 in it with a power glide and damn near killed myself. I finally bought a new '67 427/425 vette coupe. Along came the family and my next vette is a '99 bought new and pushing 140k miles.
