Default OFFICIAL MEMBER F.R.C. (flying roof club) Pics

Was driving home from the beach today and heard a very loud "whooosh", I looked in my rearview mirror and noticed my glass top sliding down the road!

Anyways, now I have a great reason to buy a factory fresh replacement, here's a few pics, I don't think it will buff out, it's busted up pretty bad. I was traveling approximately 55 mph. A local LEO was behind me, hit his blue lights and policed up the top and helped me replace it - he felt my pain...fortunally...it didn't hit anyone!

Wish me luck on finding a replacement (I'm also going to pick up a solid top) when I pick up my new glass one...in case I do it again!

here's another one:

Damn brother that's painful. I feel your hurt. Jeeze. What (on earth) allowed that to happen?

I'm curious if my insurance will pick up the tab for this? I plan on getting a glass top and a solid top. If I can pursuade my insurance carrier to replace the glass top, I'll just be out of pocket for the solid top?

Also, I found a place in Mississippi that sells replacements for 500.00, not all that bad considering GM charges 950+ .....

Anyways, to answer someone's question: I forgot to snap the two handles and while driving, wind got underneath the top and "whoooosh" off it flew like a kite.

I'm wondering about my insurance - if they will pay for the glass? Can't wait till they open in the morning!

I don't know if your insurance will cover it or not, but there is a company on the east coast of Florida that makes replacements. Astro tops. I've seen them advertise on Ebay. I think they sell for around $500.00 too. Not sure on the quality, but they've been selling on Ebay since 1999 and they have a 98.9 rating.

I would be surprised if insurance covers it. Not unless you make up a plausible story about something that they SHOULD cover....

Sorry to hear about joining the wrong FRC club. It certainly looks like it took it like a champ. Not too bad for 55mph and no telling how high it must of flown before hitting the ground.

I've only heard bad things about astro tops, mainly from C4's, but bad things none the less. I've heard GM is the only way to go for a glass top. I'd certainly check into insurance for that...they "should" cover it, minus your deductable that is. Either way, I'd try to locate a GM unit, wether it be new or used.

You're right, I don't think that will buff out.
Glad it didn't hit another car... Not sure about the insurance but you'll find that out when you talk to them.
